I was reading a series by Ian Douglas in which the heros send a ship with an active quantum drive strait into a star. The star explodes in a briliant show of lights and lots of releasrd energy, destroying the . Now I know that this does not work in SM:P but it got me thinking that if a Q-drive fails or the shilding on the drive fails to prevent small particles from entering the drive it could be very bad.
BTW, it was nice to see some SM:P tech in a book and how it was dealt with differently.
