Spacemaster Companion I in pdf?
« on: February 15, 2008, 11:58:15 AM »
Hi all.
Does anyone know if there are plans to publish PDF-versions of the Spacemaster Companion I (or II for that matter)?

I?ve got an excel based character sheet/generator for SM2 that has slowly evolved over many years, but it does not have any of the background options implemented. With a pdf-version, this would be an achievable thing to implement.

Regards,
-Terry

At the moment, ICE has no plans to re-publish any old Spacemaster products as PDFs or print.

Things may change in the future, but unlikely for it to happen this year.

Sorry.

Thanks for the (very) quick reply Rasyr.
The follow up question then is if anyone know about character generators or other sources with the back ground options in an electronic format? I guess there could be copyright issues and so on (which I know nothing about), but there are a lot of Spacemaster specific information in the various character generators on the web already (like races, professions, skills, skill costs) so I figure this material might be somewhere as well (hopefully in a sanctioned state).

Try the Vault, links in the upper left corner of the page.

I know there's no SM2 excel chargen sheet, though there are character sheets and other stuff in there. . .in fact myself and a bunch of other folks playing a SM2 game on rpgrm.com spent a few weeks searching the internet and couldn't seem to find one anywhere.

Thanks LordMiller.
I?ve got quite a few character generator applications that have been on the web in the past store don my computer, but sadly with no background options...

As you point out, there?s no SM2 character generator in the Vault. My next question then is there is an interest for one, and what I need to do before posting it (back to ICE copyright, trademarks and so on). Anyone in here that can comment on this?

This is ICE's site. .

My advice. . .Upload the files. . .(There's an "Upload" button on the Vaut-Downloads page I sent you to.)

The file itself needs to be approved before it'll become visible to people for download, so someone will have to look it over regardless.

I'm not certain what ICE's policy on the matter is, but I do know there are sheets out there like JDs for RMFRP that contain a LOT of detail. . .that are no problem.

Rasyr would likely be the one to answer your question in a more official manner.

IMO thier is allways a need for good char. gen. programs. Especialy if you allow the GM to modify every single detal while hiding the copyrighted material. That way the GM can modify the things he wants and keep all the others.

If I were you I might go to the vault and drop Brent Knorr an email and see if he can help you. I seam to remember he has a huge stash of books and if you do not need a lot of info, he may not have a problem helping you.

Another note is that Star Strike and Armored Assault are in PDF for your SM2 game. I frequently than the roll playing gods for that as my paper copy is getting beet up. I also think thier is vehicle creation sheet for SM2 in the vault that could help out.

I've got a couple of skill lists and things on my site that might be helpful.  I think I might have a lotus spreadsheet that a friend of mine did that handles SM2, probably a combined RM2/SM2 sheet.  I'll see if I can find it, if I recall correctly it used several macros, so if you don't have Lotus it probably won't work as designed but could still have some useful bits.

What more can you ask for? Ask and you will find.

I also remember the old Big Trouble in Little China joke: "What more can you ask for?", "A Seven Deamon bag".

Okay, you can give this a try, I zipped up all the related sheets and a few example characters.  I make no promises as far as accuracy or functionality but it should give you a head start.

Oop's sorry see what happens when you have seen to many movies and read too many books. You begin to lose the little stuff.

You know if I reported you to the Geeks and Nerds of the World they could revoke your Gamer Geek license for misquoting Big Trouble in Little China.  ;D

 Thanks DM and DJRJ,
I quite often get you are a nerd? Statments any way. And I am the first to admit that my thinking slips in the wee hours of the night. I accredit it to not drinking any more but I am trying to find some studies that say you should drink more if you have slight memory problems. I guess if I drink more I could forget that I forget things and be happier.

Thanks for the files ob1knorrb :).  I managed to open them in excel (in order to see the data), but I don?t have any way to open them in order to see the functionality.

I?ve got most of the data needed for character generation already. What I?m missing is background options and Rolemster spell lists, as well as SM Companion 2 cyberware (I use the Cyberspace stuff).

At the moment I?m cleaning up um SM2 character generator a bit, and then I?ll upload it in the Vault. I don?t know, but there might be people who?s interested in it.

Unfortunately I don't have an Excel version of those sheets.  Does anyone still use Lotus?  Do they even make it anymore?  Good luck with your character generator, I'd be interested in taking a peek when it's done.
