Title: Was there ever actually a Spacemaster Companion II?
Post by: GoblynByte on January 30, 2007, 06:45:03 AM
I suppose the subject says it all.  I've seen past adds speaking of a Companion II for SM2, but I never actually saw the book (back in the day).  Was it ever actually published?

There were three companions published.

The "Spacemaster Companion" (published for SM1 and integrated into SM2)
"Spacemaster Companion I" (Published for SM2)
"Spacemaster Companion 2" (also published for SM2)

I am fairly sure I have two copies at home - send me a "PM" in about 4 hours and I'll check for you...

Indeed it was published, I think it was the last item produced for SM2
Some details on it can be found at:

It was definitely published, as I have it behind me. ( along with the other two. )
Looking at the publication date I suspect too it's the last SM2 product.
Now, as the picture on Brent's site is the scan of my book ( you can see on the top some glitches caused by the crystal covers I put on most of my ICE books to protect them. ) you may think that we are making it up. We are not, I know at least 4 people that have (had ) it in France.

It contains several new professions ( I like the Combat Engineer ), two new psion lists [ Mass Mastery and Psion Discipline ]. An alternative Psion system called Psifire, some skill stuff, some cyber stuff ( so that you can actually have Cyberspace meet Spacemaster without unbalancing too much the game ), new toys to kill others and various equipment, biotech stuff ( some of them makes me think the Drakh from B5 read the book  ;) ), Rules for nuke ( Yes, that's where the rules for Radiations are hidden ) and so on.

Oh, and with that I had to remove the crust of dust over said companion in my library.

I actually have a copy as well, but my cover has a big fold across it so Guillaume's was the better of the two for the cover shot on the website, so they definitely exist  ;D

Hold on a sec... I have a I and a II.  I don't have a '0'.  Never heard of it, in fact.  What's the deal with it?

I have two copies ... but unless you have the old SM1  box set (tech law + future Law) - (not the SM2 box set or the 9050 Combined SM2 rules), you already have the contents ...

Nothing much, it was a companion intended to work with Tech Law and Future Law. It contains all the descriptions for the races that weren't in Future Law but are in SM2. ( Transhumans, replicants, Althan, K'Ta'Viir, Aeomarans, ... )

The only interesting part that was in it that wasn't really put somewhere in SM2/SS/AA was the rules for MIRCs ( Mechanized Interface Robotic Comboids.... I let you guess what it is ).

I THINK mircs were in AA.  I remember reading all about them when I did VM, and I only referenced SS and AA during the writing of that one.

Yes MIRC's are in AA, which you can get on PDF.

True that part of the MIRC stuff ended in AA, but not all of it, they lost most of their specificity.
In AA a MIRC is a vehicle that can be controled by body movement if it has the MIRC interface, while in SMC(unnumbered) it's your typical battlemech with space capability, and is specifically built around the MIRC system.

Yes, because Mekton had come out, and Battletech was roaring...

I remember it.  I still have my modules from then, but the game books went with someone else  :'(

I never saw that one. If anyone has an extra one they're willing to sell, I'm interested.

I would also like to see any old stuff on the MIRC's as I am in the process of prep'ing for a SM:P/BT game.
