Faeries in HARP
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:19:57 PM »
I'm working on making a comprehensive list of all the Lores and Crafts skills my players can learn that I know can have some applicable use (Craft: Mathematics?! -See Merchant Training Package in "ICE Common Training Packages" in the Vault).

In my research through the books I have (HARP, Monsters, College of Magic, Loot, and Martial Law), HARP Core mentions "Faerie Lore" under Arcane Lores.

But there are no Faeries.  There's some Undead, and some Dragons, some Demons (I assume we'll get more with Something Wicked), but there is NOTHING on Faeries.

So my question is: Are we to expect to see some Fae fleshed out in a future book?  Has anybody put Faeries in their games?

Hi Karizma,

I have used fae quite regularly. In fact an overarching theme in my campaign world is the conflict between the young races i.e. humans, dwarves and halflings, and the old, i.e. elves and faeries.  Most of the time I reskin existing critters or use the guidelines in Monster AFG to put something together.

Cheers
Chris

Seeing some Faerie Monster Stats sent in to the Guild Companion would be good.  :)

I could see the Fiends from MaFG as being some kind of twisted fey...

One of my players just made a Fiend-hunter PC and we ruled the same thing: Fiend are (Evil) Fairies, so we gave that PC Fairy Lore.
We also ruled that: Elves, Gnomes, Goblins and others creatures (like the Wildlings) are to be considered Fairies.
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

Yep!
I can see that!

So, essentially humanoid creatures with more magic?

Well, using what's out there for HARP... yeah... I guess so.
However, there are other examples of fey creatures that aren't so "humanoid" and/or are more rare or hidden. Using just D&D as an example, it has brownies, sprites, and some others whose names escape me.
You could try converting creatures from other systems...

Wish I could be of more help...

That interpretation may have some validity, but is clearly extremely limited compared to general mythology. and the inclusion of dwarves in that list is inaccurate compared to most of the stuff I have read in the past.  There are literally dozens of fey creatures in mythology (at least dozens).

I'd say that the topic has a definite full book of information to include, and I would hold out for a complete book on the topic rather than settling for a short set of articles.

So I guess the question comes back to, is there an intended HARP supplement for Fey?

To the best of my knowledge - nothing is planned at this time...
But you need to have one of the actual ICE staff comment to get a valid answer.

Seeing what their current work load is like I think the short term answer would be no.

as Tim has pointed out...

ICE is accepting proposals!

But nothing gets on the To Do list, unless someone asks for it. So if they aren't working on it now, hopefully they can add it to a Future list.

HI,

Look at the Vault for Fey Folk.

Converted from Rolemaster but usable, I think...

Right now there is too much on the ToDo list as it is..... That is one of the main reasons ICE is now accepting proposals!!

VERY useable!  Thank you very much!  I don't know how I could have missed that.  I also like your Scholarly article on Demons.  It's my favorite kind of fluff!

I sent in a proposal that included Fey as part of it and was turned down. I have a rough draft of the chaper I was going to write about the fey I might just expand on it and propose that as a book  ;D
After I was turned down though I started work on a poposal for a suplament for Cyradon, but I might switch to the fey.

Hi Mattiyaho,

I dont know anything baout it (obviously), but what about using Fey for a Future Harpers bazaar article?
Or for the GuildCompanion?

Or, yes, put something together and release it into the Vault...

I was thinking about something like a Bazzar article. I'll look over my rough draft and think about it.
