Using shield weapons and their bonuses to DB
« on: July 01, 2013, 07:28:24 AM »
Just looking for a ruling here as the rules don't appear explicit enough

1) Character using 2 sai in TWC decides to parry full.  They get +10 to db due to the full parry.  Do they also get to apply the +15 to db (sai as shield weapon) twice as they are parrying full with both weapons?

2) same situation as above.  Harp rules state that the +15 from sai is added when the weapon is used defensively.  So with an ob of 100, using TEC they elect to parry with 1 and attack twice with 99. Do they get the +15 bonus to db from the sai as it is now being used defensively?  Again do they get both +15 boni?

3) do they need shield training to get the shield db from a sai or a main gauche?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions

1 - Full parry is still an offensive maneuver.  You can either use the 2 sai in full parry and use the OB and +10 as a defensive bonus - or - you can use the Sai as shield weapons and get a bonus of +30 (+15 per weapon).   I suspect you get better results from the full parry application.

2 - +15 bonus only applies if the weapon is used equal to a shield = no attack, no parry, etc.

3 - Shield Training is required for the +15 shield benefit.
