Adventure Seeds in Print
« on: June 26, 2007, 09:44:57 PM »
As a test of Lulu's print quality and fulfillment, I created the first three Adventure Seeds as print versions.  I approved final versions tonight, so I made them available to the public.  These will still be available for free download on my site and RDGnow.  The print versions are for people who'd like to collect nice saddle-stitched versions.  They are available at:

http://stores.lulu.com/finalredoubt

Note that all printing, fulfillment, and customer support are handled by Lulu.  If you have any problems, you'll need to report it to them.  But please drop me a private message as well.  I haven't had any problems personally with a direct Lulu order, but I want to know if it happens to one of my customers, and if so, how often.

Yes!  I'm especially curious about how the printing and shipping process goes in Europe.

I'll tell you about it as soon as they arrive. Maybe I'll even have them when we play the first one :)

Is this the same company you are looking at to print the EoH material overall?

Yes.  At the very least, we lose nothing by trying it out since they have no upfront costs except for listing on Amazon.  I have other irons in the fire, especially for actual runs, but they're handling of fulfillment and zero cost are hard to beat.

Just ordered them.

So, if this is a good experience with Lulu then you are going to release the products as print versions?  Do you know about what those will cost?

I don't have the final numbers on how much they cost, but I THINK it will be something like 29.99 for softbound and 43.99 for hardbound on the first book.

I got my copies yesterday.

The print quality looks good.  No smears or anything.

The binding is 2 staples.  I imagine that is due to the small size of the product.

The covers and cover art look fantastic.

The paper used is good.  Waxy and image-quality.

The fulfillment and shipping took a week and it was delivered it a padded and tapped box.  Very good packaging.

My only complaint about the items is the relatively high cost.  $7 for 13 pages.  I understand that this is just a test and I have the PDFs so I knew what to expect.  I mention it since you were concerned about the going price in other threads.

I now await patiently the release of the other products for printed sale since I would love to see them in print.  And, yes, $30/$44 is fine by me for product 1.

You are lucky then.
Lulu shipped mine over a week ago and it hasn't arrived yet. I guess that's because they have to ship it across several countries.

6 not 7.  :)  I figured my artists need to get 24 cents on every sale.

I finally got my copies today. Actually they arrived on saturday but I was too tired when the package arrived and so I had to pick it up at the post office today. At first I wondered why it took them two days to print the books and two weeks to ship them to me. Now I'm a bit confused because it appears that they were printed in the US and sent from there. I thought they had an european printer in spain and was worried about the long time it took to ship the books.

Anyway they look great and maybe I'll be able to run adventure seed 1 a before this year's Wacken Open Air and after my exams :)

Two weeks is almost how long it takes when you're in the US if you take the base shipping price.  It's media mail, which means the post office takes 5-9 days to get it to you.

I think two weeks is quite good from the US to Europe. I was surprised however because I thought they had an european printer and would ship from there.

They have two, actually.  Did they charge you that much for shipping?  Maybe there was a problem and they just did it in the US and ate the shipping.

That was probably what happened because they didn't charge me more than what it said on their website.
