hey forum ppl

im new to this forum and HARP and i was wondering if there are any quick and fast rules for increasing the size of monsters. im looking at modifying the giant ants so there are some tougher bugs to deal with for my group .... any hints or ideas?
Of two equivalent theories or explanations, all other things being equal, the simplest one is to be preferred.

Welcome to the forums!
You may find a Giantism template in Cyradon core book. Or you could use the monster-building rules from Monsters: a Field Guide
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

Simple

All monsters were built as Fighters - with stats of 75 across the board. You want tougher monsters, give them a few levels and up their skill bonuses accordingly....

Sounds good! I assume they'll be pretty odd...?

Yes, I suppose that was a pretty lame thing to say. :P I am imagining strange mutant creatures that may not fit into your typical fantasy RPG setting. This isn't really a bad thing IMO.

All,

As Nicholas mentioned on The Guild Companion there is a new world setting in the works.  It currently has 21 Mundane and 32 Magical, Undead and Elemental creatures along with 7 templates.

I won't say any more to keep the jinx monsters at bay.

Jinx Monsters sound like a good idea, hehe.  Every time they hit someone they become "unlucky" hehe.  They curse those they touch.  :)

And they are every where too - have +5000 racial bonus on stalk & hide, ambush and disrupt project - just too unfair.  :P

Hi Ancient,

Monsters: A Field Guide has great details to create your own monsters.

You've got several choices:
- Create your own monsters with different size: Medium to Large or even Huge. The Endurance and PP bonuses all change and M:AFG tells you what they are.
- Apply a Template - Cyradon has a template: Gigantic (or something like that), which you can apply to "boost" the monster. Good for Quick increases without having if you've overpowered the creature...
- Apply a giant talent to the base creature at Level 1 and simply give the creature extra talents and extra levels... Giant, Giant ant fighters, base stats 75 with extra talents, etc.....

Good Luck!

Or you can do what I do. Give them the stats, skills, abilities etc that I want and call the monster something different. Giant Soldier Ant, Fire Ant, Queen Ant, Ant Hybrid (ant/scorpion) etc I use the basic template as a guide then add in what ever to make them as tough as the group they're facing.

Yeah, Thats what I would have done, but I wanted to give him the easier options instead o fcreating a monster from scratch, which is really what that is...

That way is more fun that what I wrote, but a more work for the GM... :)
