College of Magics - New Magic System
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:32:01 PM »
Hey,

I was looking at converting the old Rolemaster Profession Seer to HARP, but there are alot of Spells that need converting.  Is there anyone out there that would like to help me calculate the costs of the converted spells?

Use the rules from CoM and maybe have a look at the Mystic profession. Haven't had a look at that profession yet. Only had low level sort of seer hedge wizards in my campaign so far and the spells that HARP with all its book offered were good enough so far.

Yeah a large amount of the spells are covered but there are some that have no HARP match.  I have looked the system in CoM but wanted to find someone that has actually used it to help.

I have tried to use it several times but have been only more or less successful. It has, however, proven to be very helpful to convert a spell and post it here. People who have used the system are usually pretty quick in commenting your version of the spell, thus helping you to make it what you want it to be.

There are? I thought I had covered all the Mentalist/Seer spell concepts when I created the Mystic as part of CoM. The Mystic appeared in somewhat modified form in Codex.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Well I maybe missing some of the spells then, here is a list of the spells I was going to convert.

4. Anticipate Attack - Missile and Spell Avoidance
7. Anticipations I - What is going to happen Next Round Information, could be a scaling option for Anticipate Attack.
9. Spell Anticipations I - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
13. Anticipations III - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
18. Spell Anticipations III - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
19. Anticipations V - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
25. Anticipations True - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
30. Spell Anticipations True - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.

MIND VISIONS
25. Thought Steal - Caster can remove one thought or memory from the target?s mind.

PAST VISIONS

4. Anticipate Attack - Missile and Spell Avoidance

The Mystic has access to Bladeturn and Deflections. There wasn't/isn't much point in having another attack avoidance spell.

9. Spell Anticipations I - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.

19. Anticipations V - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
25. Anticipations True - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.
30. Spell Anticipations True - Scaling Option for Anticipations I.

I think at the time I decided that these would get tangled up in HARP's shorter rounds and would end up as too messy.

MIND VISIONS
25. Thought Steal - Caster can remove one thought or memory from the target?s mind.

Possibly also useful as a Harper spell.

PAST VISIONS
5. Vision Guide - Knowing the approximate timeframes of significant events.
19. Evoke Vision - Cause the vision to appear in the medium.

I think these should be additional scaling options for the Past Visions spell.

I'll see if I can produce two new spells and two scaling options for the June issue of TGC.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Thanks for the insight and I would love to help in any way, it is more than I could ask for.
