Question about RM
« on: August 19, 2007, 04:13:06 PM »
Hi All

I used to play a version of RM in the late eighties based on Middle Earth, I'm sure it wasn't MERP but was indeed Rolemaster. I have two questions.

1. Does anyone know what edtion that would have been (I was just a player and so never owned any books)?
2. What is the closest version to that game that ICE produce now?

Rolemaster Fantasy Role Playing,
Rolemaster Classic,
Rolemaster, The Standard System,
or, Rolemaster 2?

It's a bit confusing with all the different variations.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Lee

My guess would be RM2 - the Rolemaster Second Edition - and the closest but better now would be RMC - Rolemaster Classic!

I agree with Munchy.

It all started with two men vs. three-hundred thousand orcs.

Yeps. RMC is the one.

AND welcome ;)
I'm new here, but have played RM2 on and off for 20 years. :)

If you played in the late eighties, you definitely played 1st or 2nd edition Rolemaster as those were the editions available at that time. More likely the second, as it was in print for a long time and sold much more copies than the first one.

Currently ICE sells two flavours of Rolemaster. The one you are looking for is Rolemaster Classic (RMC), which is basically second edition rolemaster with better layout, revised for clarity text and many new optional rules. I don't recomend the other flavour, RMFRP, unless to people obsessed with details.
