Recover PP's in RMC?
« on: May 19, 2007, 01:52:32 AM »
Hi.
Where can I find the info on recovering used PP's in RMC?
The page number and book would be very helpful since the only reference I've found so far is the "caster gets xx pp's/day".

Spell Law Classic, page 25, First column, end of second paragraph, just above the header "Casting Requirements".

Some minor additional information can be found in the Meditation skill description in Spell Law Classic, on page 67.

Oki, thanks.
No way of recovering PP's by resting then... :/
I guess that notion was introduced in RMSS.

I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place. But, that's more the fault of poor genetics and poorer parenting than it is the fault of a videogame

Resting, as in sleeping, or resting, as in low activity?

Nawp, not unless that low activity constitutes "meditation".

The answer would be you regain PP either through Meditation or Sleep ... only

I suppose it would be easy to house-rule it if the need arose.
RMSS would be a good place for inspiration.

Or you could be a high muckety muck in a church, and have loads of peons around with the channelling skill to "top you off" whenever you use some of your juice.

I can think of another couple of "esoteric" answers like that.

I try not to use words like "Only" in RM, since there are usually more loopholes than you can ever casually consider. (And if you get three RM GMs into one conversation you can usually come up with 5-6 exceptions to any rule, without delving into house rules.)

Does anyone out there allow PP recovery for partial sleep? i.e. is it "8 hours sleep" or nothing?

I would go with the three hours cycles from RMSS/FRP. This in my opinion makes sense as with three hours you are somewhat recovered while sleeping less usually only results in you being even weaker and more tired than before.

I suppose this question will split in two.
1. What's most realistic and anchored in reality?
2. What's most playable?

I would go with k.i.s.s.
Keep the minimum cycle to 1hr because it is simple.
Just divide the max pp's with the normal cycle and you get pp's/hr.
Easy and playable.

I dunno about 1 hour. . . .then again, depends on if it's a nap or sleep. (Like munchy, I find a 1 hour nap refreshing, but 1 hour of sleep worse than none at all.)

heheh. . .counter KISS. . .headings for "Napping" and "Sleeping". .

And then along come elves, who meditate for 4 hours instead of sleeping to mess all these calculations up...

Meditation skill works for humans too. . . .Another "4hours" all or nothing scenario. Perhaps 1/4 PPs per hour spent meditating?

Actually there is a lot of interesting studies on sleep.
If you sleep for 30min or less you will feel refreshed but once you pass that 30min marker you go into deep sleep and will feel more tired when you awake. So, to eliminate the tired feeling you can nap, wake and do something, nap again, repeat and only feel refreshed after each nap.
The feeling is not an indicator of how good the rest is...
There was a military study that concluded that a person can survive on 4h of sleep per night but he needs to sleep no more than 4h or the body will develop a craving for more sleep and then the 4h/night will be insufficient.

Lots of fun stuff out there if you look for it.
I still feel 1h is a good enough time period.
