The Dispel does mangle, but not destroy the info, if the "Lore" spell beats the Dispell on the RR conflict, the information is retrieved. . .

Might help if y'all had read the book. (I have my doubts that Tim is cool with cutting and pasting 4 pages of the book here.)

Because the Cancel (or even a Dispel) only creates a temporal wall of sorts. It is not a spell designed for foiling scrying, but it can work to hinder it. And since it uses an already existing mechanic, that means no special rules are required. Also remember, Cancel Essence, even in its normal use, does NOT guarantee that it will stop incoming spells. It isn't a perfect solution, but it is an aid for those who wish to try and avoid after-the-fact detection.

And yes, those other things are all options for breaking the temporal trace links. Again, none of them are perfect, as higher level seer spells can still work to pick up the "scent" again.

Looked through RMSS Spell Law and base book.  Was it removed from RMSS or did it reappear in one of the Companions?

Heh.

RMC Spell Law. PDF is on sale in the store. (And hardcopy available when the new printer situation resolves.)

Well, in RME you have the rules on how "Informational" spells work, but the "Traces in the Essence" rules did not make the cut. So, at least half of this conversation is in the new doc.

Well, both the I spell info, and the new rules on "Traces in the Essence" and "Illusions/phantasms" made it into the RME "Express Additions" ICE just released.
