Attuning to 'Realm" Item
« on: January 12, 2012, 05:53:59 PM »
Do you as a GM subtract the players magic resistance from their attunement skill when attuning to an item that is "Realm" based?

I do.  In actuality, I turn the penalties into bonuses and bonuses into penalties.  For example, since Elves have a -5 to resist Chan/Ess/Ment, that means magic can effect them easier.  Thus, when performing such things as Attunement, Sense Power, Detect Reality Warp, etc. it is actually easier for them to do such.  Dwarves, who have a +40 vs. Ess, would actually, have a -40 on such skills.

Make sense?

That does make a lot of sense.
Thanks

Forgot something on above post.

On Udava, I once summed the modifiers for the total skill modifiers.  For example, Elves got a +15 since they had a -5 in all three realms.  Dwarves would net a -80 (ouch!) due to +40 vs Ess, +0 vs Chan, and +40 vs Ment.

Another alternative would be to average them as I ended up doing.  Elves then get +5, Dwarves -27, etc.

Using this, then bonuses vs. multiple realms can hurt attunement to Arcane items quite a bit if using RAW.
