There's been a lot of discussion about maps of all Middle-Earth there lately, I believe someone's stitched all of the Fenlon maps together and there's probably others, too.

Have you looked at the MERP Fan Modules group?

I beleive there is a player's guide to Jaiman which should be an interesting read for players so they have some basic knowledge of the areas in the campaign and some of the history.

RM is not an adventure intense game like D&D Pathfinder etc in that they are few and far between.  Most are pretty simple hooks, singular encounters. The Tales of the Loremasters are nice fill ins, the Grand Campaign though incomplete I believe is playable with some work. The adventures in the Norek book are interesting though they are relatively quick to play through. The Jaiman "campaign" is decent but really needs to be filled in with lots of other adventures, particularly since that is really written for characters in the 5-7 range.

The Hailkitain Book is a good filler as well.

I would suggest getting all the books and reading them while putting together a campaign because there are lots of elements going on across the books that could be woven together into a single campaign with PCs traveling from Norek to Halkitain and finally to U'leshak to help the Price regain his thrown, which will bring the PCs into the lair of Sulthun. But it really has to all be read and strung together to not feel like a bunch of disparate adventures.

Thought I would take the temperature of the Forum user base and see who might be around the Southern Maine area for in-person RM gaming (Shadow World of course). My normal gaming/test group has been permanently disrupted by COVID! Ideally I'd like 3-5 players for twice monthly gatherings starting August or September.

In my opinion, Emer is more about three things
- large trade cities (Sel-Kai and Kaitaine, a few others to a lesser extent)
- huge sparsely-settled or unsettled areas (Uj, Khum-Kaan, Onar, Rael, even most of Tai-Emer)
- two continent-spanning empires (the Masters of Emer in the Second Era, and the Aldaron Empire in the Third Era) that shaped the ethnic, cultural and religious composition of the continent but crumbled completely, leaving only mysteries and ruins.

I like Jaiman for the many different cultures that are stacked in a relatively small continent, and the historical interactions that naturally came from proximity. I also like that there are several major villains that loom just over the horizon and are known to everyone - the Master of Ulor and the Dragonlord, at the very least. I like how the local politics are dynamic because of that proximity. I like how you can go from relatively safe and advanced Rhakhaan (late medieval according to Hurin, late Renaissance according to me :D) to ruined Saralis (that probably looks like post-Third Northern War Arthedain in most places, except in the south) by crossing a large lake. I like how Rhakhaan shows Laan at their highest and most arrogant (if you except far-off Clycallah in Gaalt).

I like Emer because of the layered history and the space. Everything is huge - from metropolises to jungles and deserts, and you stand in the crumbling remains of the mightiest empires the post-Interregnum world has known
(click to show/hide)
. This is where the Gods fought at the decisive moment during the Wars of Dominion. There is this everpresent feeling that everything, no matter how mighty, crumbles in the end. There are no "obvious" villains (there *are* villains, but they are not obvious). I like how Namar-Tol shows Loari at their highest and most arrogant.

I like both. I wish other continents were described with as many tasty, crunchy details as those two.

Jaiman is more northerly (the far north is Arctic) and was once a grouping of various kingdoms, most of which are now gone. There is still one relatively stable kingdom left (the Rhakhaan Empire), so that is a good starting spot for characters. Also, more modules were released for Jaiman, so some regions are well documented (e.g Rhakhaan, Tanara, Xa-ar, Norek, Aranmor).

Emer is larger and more southerly and has full-on jungles and desert (together with more temperate regions). It was once a single empire ruled by Titans, but is now a collection of various states, quite a few of which are stable (Sel-Kai, Kaitaine, etc.). Emer is less fleshed out by modules, but also has a bit more thematic variety (e.g. the Japanese-inspired Nuyan Khom, the Mayan/Aztec inspired Lankanok, etc.).

Could someone give me a summary of the differences in tone/theme between Jaiman and Emer? They both sound good but I'm not sure which to get.

There are two discord channels that are better places to find an online game than here on the forums.  The official ICE discord https://discord.gg/yYteupr6  and the fan run https://discord.gg/9dm6s2d8.

Could you repost the Fan Discord link? I get that that is invalid when I try to join.
