I liked it but on one of the Q's I would have liked some additional info. I only got a 70 as I have moded my game quite a bit.

If a question needs more info or is wrong, please let me know.  :D And yeah... this is straight from the book Spell Law so if you have used house rules for a while this will refresh your memory.

The question was the one on dispelling a spell. I think it is just semantics as I think of cancelling your own spells and dispelling someone else's spells.
Yes I do need to review as I do not use illusions or daemon summoning as per Spell Law but I did also forget[misremember] some of the info as well.

hehe I got 80% but RMSS isnt the system I use. The Illusion question got me as well, maybe because we have had so few illusionists in our campaigns

I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place. But, that's more the fault of poor genetics and poorer parenting than it is the fault of a videogame

I changed the wording from "In canceling a spell" to "In canceling your own spell" to remove the confusion. thanks!

scored a 90, and only disagreed with one question: SCSM are not part of the casting and a second roll is made to cast the spell.  Of course, it has been a while since I read the books and I wonder if this rule varies from versions of rmss/frp.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

That is actually STRAIGHT out of RMSS. Sorry.  ;)

So I take it SCSM are not open ended?  I really should dust off the old rule book...

From the book...

"This static maneuver is part of the spell casting action and is not a separate action"

If I understand correctly, the SCSM is an open-ended roll; pg 105 RMSS:

Spell Casting Static Maneuver Roll =
1d100 (open-ended) + 50
+ caster’s skill bonus for the spell’s list
+ mods from Spell Casting Modifications Table T-4.6
Note: This static maneuver is part of the spell casting action and is not a separate action.

We play RMFRP. IIRC, the only change was they added the +50 to the chart and you no longer add it to your roll.

^^^ A much better reply than mine. Maybe Tim could chime in but I am assuming here that if the cast itself is for a Basic Attack Roll, then you would ignore the Open ended roll and take the first roll only. If it's for a Bolt attack which has an attack table that goes over 100 and in some cases takes a UM100, then you would use the full open ended roll.

That's how I interpret the rules above.

I interpret that statement as meaning that there is no additional activity involved and one does not have to allocate an "action" (of which one can have only three per round, one each of snap, normal, and deliberate) to the SCSM in addition to the spell-casting action. There's nothing there about it not requiring an additional roll for getting over the normal spell-casting hurdles.

Okay, I'll stop being lazy and check the book: here's the text from page 105 of RMSR: "If this maneuver is successful, the spell may be cast with the same normal failure chances outlined above." The SCSM does not bypass the normal spell-casting rolls, it is in addition to them.

Yeah, the roll is separate, but it's the same Action. IIRC, this isn't the only Action that requires more than 1 roll.

But I'm not trying to quibble over your cool test/questionnaire. I think it's a good idea.

Hmm... sounds like I am in the wrong and the question just needs to be reworded. Oops. Always good to have a second opinion on things.

edit: have updated the question to clear the issue.
