Defense Against Locate & The Like Spells
« on: May 20, 2009, 03:01:09 PM »
I was looking through the various versions of Spell Law that I have and was unable to find a definitive defense against Locate spells (e.g. Locate Target or Locate Object) or similar such divination/informational spells.

Are there such spells?

P.S. I am looking for something definitively detailed in the rules - any version of the rules or supplements.
Opinions or 'house rules' are fine to reply with but if doing so, could you please clearly indicate such?
Thanks.

Locate spells are a form of scrying. Use Vision Guard spell list, specifically Cloud Scrying, Scrying Misdirection and False Scrying spells, from Mentalism Companion. Read chapters on Evoking the Past, Scrying the Present and Divining the Future to keep informational and divinatory magics under control.

Best wishes,

 For detection Unpresesnce on page 149 SL95 and my brain at this moment does not come up with a spell for items. But I am fairly sure there is one. Also note that most items on a person, save vs spells as if the spell was targeting the person. You might also use spell mastery for and item to be treated as the target of a caster only spell, or something like that. Also note that really powerful items might get a save any way do to thier magical nature.

A little more searching found this;
 Maybe Resistance True on page  81 SL95 or pag 83 the Dispelling Ways list to put dispelling sphere around the item.

 I also would not be surprised if there was not a high level spell in RoCo 1 but I do not have time right now to find it.

And don't forget Disguise Mastery's spells from Magent Base lists!
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

If using RMC/RMX, "I" spells allow an RR, so any spells that boost RR vs spells will give some benefit.
