What's Your Favorite Armor Type?
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:25:27 PM »
What's your favorite AT? I allowed the selection of up to 4, since most people seem to not have 1 fave.

I included Animal ATs for completeness, if they're winners, then I'll know most of y'all are roleplaying fuzzies.

All credit for this should go the the thread that inspired it:

I decided to go with all the Greave armors, since that is mostly what my characters use. My decision is based on the fact that the breast plates are easy and fast to put on if you are in a hurry, with the greaves if your really are expecting to get into trouble and have a little time to prepare. Also I feel the Breast plates plus greaves are nicely balanced between maneuverability and protection, so I usually end up wearing them.

As an essence user maybe I should have chosen AT4 (Spell Mastered Armor spell from Shield Mastery), though I havent used that yet. Seems I dont get to play as often as I like these days ...

I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place. But, that's more the fault of poor genetics and poorer parenting than it is the fault of a videogame

Odd poll, for me it depends on the character type I playing. I don't really have a prefered armor. i just go with what makes the most sense for the character concept. So I just picked the 4 from the most common character concepts I play.

So didi I: 17 for fighters/mentalists, 9 for channeling users/stealthy characters and 11 (natural, like the one that lizardmen get  ;D) for Essence casters.
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

I always choose AT 10 for most of my fighter based characters.

16 voters, absolutely no apparent solid group opinion. . . .I find the 0 votes more interesting than which AT is in the lead.

mabey it hasn't been long enough yet for most to notice and really look at the decision.

At low levels for me, Game as is, it is At1. I always find it to be a problem that No armor actualy ends up being more beneficial in the long run than wearing even Rigid leather types. on the average compared to AT 6-8 and 9-10 it is only a difference of mabey a couple concussion hits and and a the top of the list a difference of at most 15-20 points for an E crit. other wise you take hits and crits often alot earler than AT1.

once you get some skill under your belt at level 5 or higher, then I would move to At 16 and Full plate.
This is of course running the game as written.

In my own game, to off set what I think is an inconsistency in how armour works, I applying a straight up +20 DB bonus to ALL armour types save for AT 1.  It still leaves AT 5 and ( most times still a little below or around the same as AT1 but For me, gives a better reflection for amours Damage reduction/deflecting abilities.

This is something I would seriously recommend ICE look into adjusting for the Next Version of RM. As Is. when you also Consider the Penalties that players take to various Movement maneuvers, missile attacks and Quickness, Most armours don't end up being worth it Until and unless they are magical, and most players skip them.

It's quite interesting to see that AT 4 and AT 12 are quite popular armor types, although according to the rules these ATs are AFAIK not available to player characters, but are animal/monster hides only. Were these armors freely available they'd be among my top picks.

lol how are 3 or 4 votes out of 24 "popular"?

though it is funny how no one At has received more than 6 votes out of 24 even when people can vote for 4 options.

And the latter is exactly the answer to your question... Mind also that I did not write "most popular" or something along that line, but just "quite popular".

AT 7 and AT 19 still no votes, with 26 people getting 4 votes each.

Makes sense to me, since 6 is the best protection without loosing maneuverability, and if you're going as high as 19, you might as well wear 20.

But there are spells that allow you to get those armor types, as well as items.  The poll is for favorite - not what you are most likely to have.

Personally I like 17 - simple one piece and SCSM penalties don't take much transcend armor to negate.

I am surprised somebody took 5 however as we generally avoid it at all costs.

Interesting, with 30 voters in, I'm actually starting to see more of a pattern of winners and loosers here.

How do you view poll results without casting a vote?

I can only view the poll as moderator, or logged out as lurker, and it looks a lot different either way, so I'm not 100% sure.

Ususually there is a "View results line" next to the poll area to let you in without voting. Let me check the poll permissions on this one.

Depends if warrior, mage, etc. But most common:

1, 10, 13 and 16.

Don't want to offend anyone...but.. someone voted AT5??? really? I prefer to go naked actually...

AT14 & 18 are my favorites. The fact that several posters suggested AT2 as being normal clothes was very interesting. Perhaps I should reserve AT1 for Conan-type games: Barbarians in loincloth and scantily clad women hacking fully armored villains  :D

Trond;
Yes IMO having AT 2 be normal for people and AT1 for fast creatures dramatically changes and improves the game.
