For defence against mentalism/channeling users: Circle II with Dispel Mentalism/Channeling and Unmentalism/Unchanneling. If a mentalism/channeling user tries to enter the circle, they either make their RRs (with a -50 RR mod) or lose all active spells as well as all powerpoints.

Nice trap.

Simple as Darkvision and a Dark spell around you. You see them but they don't see you. Yes, i know that more or less they know that you are in the center of the dark sphere, but is really useful.

playing a game with a little common sense? none.

Playing in one where you can only parry as part of the attack maneuver as has been indicated over and over in RMSS, a lot especially when the calmed creature hasn't been attacked yet.

It has been my observation that many of the people who like RMSS/RMFRP use the system to trump common sense.

This didn't make sense to me either (Parry requiring the ability to Attack ... ) when the parry could essentially be a dodge, duck, tumble away etc.

Despite parry requiring an attack, if calmed, I'd Full Attack as an opportunity action against anyone who attack me. Not sure if this is by house rules or RAW (we allow opportunity actions by "triggers", like someone getting adjecent to you, within a certain range, attacking you etc). So no attack unless I'm attacked, but if attacked, I attack back (and get to parry).

Well, if you also think that common sense says a calmed character should be able to parry in order to defend himself, then IMO you should play that way, even if you think that the combat rules say otherwise. Personally I think the spell description does not prohibit parrying, even if parry is part of an attack. My interpretation would be that this possible "acting in self defense" in the spell description allows exactly one form of the attack action, which is a full parry. Of course everyone is free to use another interpretation that "trumps common sense"  ;).

That's a pity. Fortunately I've had different experiences.

I'd concur with Ecth, that under calm, you can full parry at will, the "roll" is intended for accidentally skewering someone, not intentional killing.

Also, you can "fight in self defense". I see that as being able to attack anyone who attacks you - not only by parrying them, but actually attacking them. The best thing to do, if there are more opponents, is to take out all non-calmed opps (with the calmed ones being unable to offer much help, unless they are magicusers who can buff or heal) before taking out the calmed opponent in the end.

As an aside: my player use calm to calm down the group's berzerker when the enemy is down and the berzerker is looking for more targets. Quite a good idea, IMHO.

I agree very good on the spell casters part.

agreed, though they'd get an RR and I'd consider them unwilling. . .

Forcewave (preferably II) + Stonewall = lots of fun, for the caster! Combined with Power Manipulation you can have a few combatants cast into a nice wall. This, of course, could get even nastier with some elemental wall, but what have you.
