Burn, baby! Pyromancers in RM2
« on: February 18, 2020, 10:07:45 AM »
I have a player who wants to do a magician focused almost solely on fire spells. Any thoughts on the best way to handle this? I'm looking at the High Elementalist or Elemental Channeler from the Elemental Companion. What's the balance like on those?

Also, has anyone ported these into ERA? If so, care to share the files? I'd rather not have to type all of this in, but will if the class is a good fit.

Admittedly, I've only browsed through the elemental companion. I have zero idea on how balanced it is in a game using only core rules, RoCo I, and pieces of RoCo II & III.

They've opted for the versatility a mage brings. We'll switch things up a little bit (such as "heat bolt" instead of "shock bolt" so it fits their concept more but is simpler.

Thanks, I tend to avoid home brew stuff. Not because it's inherently bad. With new players it's easier to hand them one or two books than it is to give them books, web links, and printouts. I've also seen a lot of home brew stuff that is bad. Or is great for the setting it was built for and not so great anywhere else. Not that this stuff is that. :)

I love the material from the Elemental Companion. They did make an effort to balance things better than the numbered companions sometimes did, but I can't say whether they succeeded or not. One downside of the EC spell lists is that there are a lot of levels on them with no spells, and the lists tend to be pretty generic. But the classes are cool and the spells overall add a great deal of depth to the concept of an elementalist-type character.

Have him roll Archmage abilities and change his base lists to Mana Fires, Fire Law, Element’s Master, and Fire Forms (?)

I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place. But, that's more the fault of poor genetics and poorer parenting than it is the fault of a videogame

She's new. I'm letting everyone know about hybrid casters but not pushing for them. Picking lists from one realm will be enough choice  for this group.

There’s also just the option to change the base lists to anything FiRe/PyRe without changing realm or costs.
That or Elemental Companion but I feel that book is very limiting in its scope.

Why not browse over the Fire & Ice book for RMFRP? It has fire specialist magic, with spell lists that specifically complement Fire Law.

My Fire Mage has Plasma Mastery (RoCo. III), Light's Creations (RoCo. V), Earthfires (Guild), Holy Fires (Guild), Speech Mastery (own list), Sun's Heart (Guild) and Explosives (AlC) as his base lists. Since there are seven of them, he may only choose three others as base lists (with Blood Law highly recommended). In addition, he may develop Glass Mastery (RoCo. V) as a prosaic spell list. With all of these, he has mastery over eight concepts associated with his elements (heat, light, lava, plasma, explosions, glass, speech and blood) and even nine if one uses the radiation critical table for the light spells (radiation).
He uses the Magician's skill costs and profession bonuses, but for the following skills: Cookery (1/5), Signalling (1/3), Alchemy (1/3), Frenzy (4/8), Crafting (1/4), Public speaking (1/5), Duping (2/4).

Experience proves that his power level balances well with the other elemental mages —by that I mean the Wood Mage, the Earth Mage, the Metal Mage and the Water Mage— and he plays his appropriate role amidst them.
The world was then consumed by darkness, and mankind was devoured alive and cast into hell, led by a jubilant 紗羽. She rejoiced in being able to continue serving the gods, thus perpetuating her travels across worlds to destroy them. She looked at her doll and, remembering their promises, told her: "You see, my dear, we succeeded! We've become legends! We've become villains! We've become witches!" She then laughed with a joyful, childlike laughter, just as she kept doing for all of eternity.
