Query: Rolemaster Quarterly, et al.
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:53:58 PM »
G'day!

In the past I've loved picking up the various numbers of Rolemaster Quarterly, Express Additions, and so on, and was wondering whether an equivalent would be considered for RMU. I'd love to be able to devote time to working on such smaller-scale publications, treating them akin to poetry chapbooks: smaller, greater unity, a single focus per issue, and a great chance to stock up on gaming material.

May I ask: if you're ICE and/or GCP staff, how attractive would such be for you?

And if you're a player and/or GM, how attractive would such be as a series of gaming aids?

I loved the Rolemaster Quartiles and would definitely purchase them as a player!!

They're like mini companions in effect but with a smaller price tag and regular releases so doesn't affect the wallet in a big way and keeps the rolemaster hunger pangs at bay. :)

The RMQs, DataNets, etc., etc., are very tiny publications and they don't sell that well. They also are too small (unless collected into compilations) for PoD.

I intend GCP to be focusing on more reasonably sized works - the TGAs and the Shadow World Player Guide represent the bottom end of the page count what we should be publishing as pdfs and PoD (and hopefully getting into mainstream distribution). Multi-author works are fine with me. Themed products are very desirable.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Thank you, Mr Caldwell, for clarifying your position. It is also good to hear, again, of your desires for GCP, and I already have ideas for future products that i am making notes for.

It's a shame they weren't that popular. :(

But on the other hand it opens up an area for a fan to start publishing material if they get permission from The Guild Companion Publishing or ICE.

i think I see where you're coming from. For example:

Chaosium has opened up a line of PDF supplements for material both in lengths unsuitable for hardcopy publication, and unlikely to justify a print run (diminished somewhat by POD technology, true). So, in this case, the equivalent of Rolemaster Quarterly (Rolemaster Papers?) could be a series of smaller, PDF only (though printable) items that would not work as hardcopy or POD.

That way it could not only be opened up to fans, but, additionally, give them experience in the submissions and publishing process, and, hopefully, help develop a stable of game designers passionate about and experienced in ICE products.

Howdoes that sound to you and your colleagues?
