"Base" materials of weapons and armor...
« on: March 25, 2008, 05:48:15 PM »
If I understand correctly, Rolemaster assumes that "standard" metal weapons and armor are made of iron.  Does HARP make the same assumption or does it assume a base material of steel?

Martial Law gives the next best metal as being "superior steel," so I would assume that the base metal is just "regular" steel.  I just wanted to make sure.  If this is the case, I wonder how things would need to be modified for iron (or bronze, or copper, or stone, or wood) weapons.

In RM there were charts for this somewhere... Bronze were like -20 for cutting blades and same as steel for crushing weapons, iron was -10 for cutting edges, stone was like -50 for cutting edges and -20 for crushing weapons... Don't remember the right numbers, but i think it was something like that. Important point was different modifiers for edged and crushing weapons.
If any spell can be made into potion, how does fireball potion work when someone drinks it?:D

And that's kind of what I'm curious about simulating.  Problem is I can't find anywhere that says what the "base" HARP weapon is made out of.  :(

The base is iron just as in RM. Superior Steel is basically the same as High Steel in RM, it is just that HARP doesn't have as many different variations in types of materials.

Hmmm...so is there a cost formula somewhere for "normal" steel?  If not, no biggy.  I can extrapolate.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing it.

Sorry, but no. However, just do regular steel at half the values, across the board, as Superior Steel.

Excellent!  Thanks a bunch.  That answers my question.  ;D
