So, let's hear from you GMs: What badboys you like to throw at your victi..er.."players"? Homebrewed? Official? You name it!!! How did the encounter go?
As we play in Middle Earth, I try to convert monsters bit by bit to fit the setting. I have done so for Orcs (had to do it) and published it on my website. Then went to Trolls (had to do it too
) and the doc is nearly finished now, but not released as my players still have to discover a few things before.
I have used Undeads with few modifications and I loved them (not sure about the feeling of my players, thought, they looked scared at the least). The way their special abilities work in HARP gives them a deep special feeling without having the negative side of things like "level draining". They inspired awe and fear at the table, so that was fine.
I have also used NPCs with a lot of pleasure, much less prep time than in my previous system and a lot of customization easily done.
Other monsters are usually created by taking an existing one and adapting it: if I find something in Core Book or MaFG that fits, I adapt quickly, even if I have to change a few things or just look and name, else I go to my big collection of RPGs, take what I need and adapt it to HARP.
