Title: Strange result on the RMSS/RMFRP subdual critical table
Post by: Ecthelion on January 21, 2018, 12:51:30 PM
Hi, during yesterday's playsession we stumbled across an entry on the Subdual critical table that surprised us: The result for rolling a 01-05 for an E-critical tells that the opponent falls into unconsciousness. I think no other RM critical table sends the foes unconscious when rolling a 01-05. So I wonder whether this is an error or whether this is intentional? Any ideas?

It's a rarely used and somewhat obscure table, at least in our group. We figured that the result makes sense as you typically attack with a penalty to achieve subdual crits. An increased chance of success makes it worthwile. If it were a normal table it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

This is most likely not a typo.  Sometimes "accidents" happen and you accidentally do something you didn't intend to.

This is similar to the Stress Crit table.  There are sections where the stress is good for you i.e.: beneficial stress - the mom able to lift the car off of her child pinned under the car, the firefighter able to endure the heat to toxic environment to rescue 5 people, then collapses outside.  Not all stress is bad.

In the case of the subduing crit, one could argue you nailed the exact, pin-point, spot to render the foe unconscious... however, you didn't hit it with enough force, or you slipped and it was too much force, or the foe has a medical condition :) and the foe went unconscious.  Whatever hypothetical you want to argue, the precision was there, the execution was poor.
