Title: ERA - Resistance Role modifier due to the Realm of Power chosen
Post by: thiha on November 18, 2017, 09:38:03 AM
Hi there! A Rolemaster fan from Japan here :)
Recently, I purchased ERA data set (Rolemaster Classic core rulebooks bundle) to run sessions online with friends.

And I've made several characters using ERA, ... and have found that there's always +15 applied to one of the three RRs vs Realm powers, and it apprantly corresponds to the Realm of Power of that character, i.e. if your character's Realm of Power is Mentalism, there is a +15 applied automatically to RR vs Mentalism.

But I've never seen such rule in the core rulebooks.

Could anyone tell me where/how the +15 comes from?
Can I customise it on ERA?

Thanks!

It's in RMFRP p52, Standard RR Modifications (in the table).

In RM2, it's included as a modifier in the RR table (p51 in my 1984 printing of Spell Law) or the RR Mods table (p153 of the 1989 printing).

In RMSR, I presume it's floating around in Spell Law somewhere. My copy is split up over numerous folders, and I'm not sure what I did with the relevant section, so I wasn't able to pinpoint it.

RMSR -- it's in Spell Law, p202, Resistance Roll Modifications.

Hi, Sable

Thank you very much for your letting me know where to see in the core rulebooks.

Spell Law!

I've been looking for the reference in Character Law only, as I thought it's part of character creation process.

Really appreciate your help!

@thiha in effect, ERA will always add +15 to the RR vs the character's own realm.
Since this was never presented as an optional rule in any of the books, I never thought of offering a chance to "turn it off".

If you have a house rule that implies not offering this bonus, the only way to adjust it in ERA for now would be to manually set a -15 RR to each character's own realm.

Apart from that, I'm really glad to have users in Japan!
Thanks for your interest in ERA

@Voring Kye

Thanks for your clarification on the "+15" and how to customize it in ERA.
I've been having that "+15" applied to RR on a somehow case by case basis and never directly write it down to the RR bonus columns on the character sheet. :o Maybe it's because I started playing Rolemaster mainly with RM Classic ruleset, and her Character Law's character creation overview didn't include the "+15" in the character record example.

Anyway, now I've got it, and I really appreciate your kind response.
ERA is neat for playing Rolemaster!  ;)

Thank you!
