Once I iniatiate a combat, how do I check the character sheet of one of the party without coming out of the program?

Depends on what information you need.
In the attack dialog, you will see all OB's of the attacker (skill name, ranks, total bonus).
For the defender you will see armor, specific defenses providing DB, and OB's to be used for parrying.

To see remaining hits as percentage as stuns + bleeding, you can hover over the character portrait for 2 seconds and a tooltip should appear.

If you are not in the middle of an attack, you can get some more detail by clicking on a character and choosing the "character status" (the upper option in the circular menu).

Player focused information can be obtained by opening a tab in the browser and going to:
http://<your server address>:7777/CharacterStatus

For the complete character sheet, you should open a new tab in your browser and go to the character sheet module (http://<your server address>:7777/CharacterSheet)
