Just an FYI...

Badge Registration is coming up in a week or so for those who will need to go through the housing lottery.

So I'm going to my first GENCON ever.  Have been playing RM for many years.  Is there going to be any events for RM, SM, Harp etc?

There should be a handful based on previous years.  Hopefully some people here that are planning on running will speak up so you can look out for their events when registration gets close.

I will likely be running some RM games.  I missed last year (needed to put a new roof on my house and had too many other things going on), but ran six sessions each of the previous two years.  Hoping to run at least 6 sessions this year also, if time permits with other stuff that I'll have going on.

According to the newsletter ICE will be at Gencon this year! The first time in I'm not sure how long.
I hope they have a booth and are ready for the intensity of this con.

This changes my plans of not going this year.
But I will probably not be able to get there until Thursday night due to work and needing to make money...lol.
Unfortunately I will not actually be able to do anything until Friday morning.

Hopefully ICE will set up a meet and great somewhere. Which reminds me, does anyone who is going want to set up a lunch or dinner date?

I just got the email for the Order of the Iron Crown members. This is awesome! We'll have to query ICE to see if they want to have a meet and greet.

I responded to the poll about games and the booth.  I would love to do a meet and greet.

I'm booked and badged and excited to participate in some Rolemaster at GenCon this year.  This will only be my 2nd time attending the con, but I've been a Rolemaster fan for years.  Looking forward to playing (and possibly running) some RM!

I did a search for ICE and the The Guild Companion and nothing popped up. Never thought to use the full name vice the acronym...lol.
I am up for running a game and manning the booth but I am more suited to running a HARP game than RMU since I have not run any RM in a long time. I could do it easily with time to prep, so hopefully they will let us know what's going on. I do hope they run HARP though.

I've used these two sites in the past. Very helpful in tracking down what you want to register for.

Well, registration done.  This year made up for the last time I went (three years back) where I only got one of the dozen or so events I wanted.  Got all but one this time.  Very happy about it.  Going to have a pretty full schedule however.

I have both of these but haven't played them much.  X-Wing I pretty much bought for RPG props, but I figure I might as well get a play in at Gen Con to see if I like the base game (and I don't have to read the rules now!).  Imperial Assault was bought for the board(war)gaming firstly, but using the mini's in RPGs will be nice.  The quality on them is pretty good.  Just got to get some painted.  That'll happen in... um... retirement probably.
- Imperial Assault Miniature Game (Free For All Style)
- X-Wing Miniature Game

So, I have some of these minis.  Several of the WWII planes and a good amount of the ships.  Again, the ships were bought mainly for props in RPGs or replacement pieces for boardgames (got a really good deal at Gen Con 47 on them).  But I've played both these at Gen Con before and (mostly) had fun, so I'm going to do them again.
- Sails of Glory Miniature Game
- Wings of Glory Miniature Game

Circus Imperium is one of those games I've always been keeping an eye out for.  A reprint was Kickstarted recently, but I really didn't like the look of the campaign, so I passed on it.  If I had a 'holy grail' game this would probably be it.  But... I've never actually played it.  So now I get to see if I absolutely have to find it or if it'll come off the wish-list.
- Circus Imperium Board Game (if I can wake up)

Normally I won't play RPGs at Gen Con.  Boardgames I really need to PLAY to get a good feel for if I'd like them, but RPGs I'm often happy enough to just show up, watch character creation (or handout and explanation) and a bit of the play and I'll know if I'll like it.  However I've been wanting to try out both 7th Sea and the newest Star Wars RPGs.  Managed to get a 7th Sea slot, but no dice on the Star Wars one.  There are still some open, but they conflict with stuff I want to play more.
- 7th Sea RPG

Pretty simple.  Have always wanted to try out Paranoia, but never had the chance.  Seems like it would be rather fun.  Every single Gen Con I've been to (up to now) it has always sold out before I could snag a slot though.  Going to be a long Friday... Circus Imperium 8am, stuff between, and Paranoia ends at 1am.  Have just about enough time for lunch and diner, I think.
- Paranoia RPG

Good number of seminars I'll probably hit too, but those rarely sell out and I know I can just drop in on them.

So having missed out on a number of events that I really wanted to do, I'm considering running a 4-hour RMC game at the Con.

I emailed about joining the Order of the Iron Crown a few months ago but didn't hear back.  I assume I can arrange a game independently?  Has anyone done this before?

I ran a two round event way way back using RM as the basis for a chariot race without any of the former ICE's support (this was 15+ years ago).  Although I created my own attack and critical tables it was based on the RM system.

You should be able to simply submit an event to Gen Con (do this before new event submission closes) independently here:
https://www.gencon.com/event_registrations/new

I imagine ICE would be happy to provide some kind of support however.  Just need to get their attention.

David,
I will update you to show as OIC.... and I will flag you to Colin and he can help you out with the con itself.

Colin,I only ended up registering to run three Rolemaster games this year (instead of 6 like the previous years), but with working in the Pointy Hat Games and Iron Crown booth, figured I better not over do the GMing time commitment.

Let me know if you want to offer some sort of support as in past years for those who participate in the games.  But be warned that for some reason the forums have not been emailing me notices about posts to threads or private messages for more than a year now (and I have checked my "subscription settings" already and things look okay there).

Well, it's only a single 4-hour session but I am very excited to be running Rolemaster at GenCon this year.  I've set the scenario in the world of Steven Erikson's "Malazan Book of the Fallen" (very much worth looking into if you aren't familiar with it) and will be using Rolemaster Classic rules with 10th level pregen characters.  I haven't run RMC since it was still just RM2 and have almost certainly set myself up for some degree of disaster, but I advertised it as a "no experience needed" game in the hopes of recruiting some new players.

I am very excited to run what I have written.  If anyone is interested in the material once I've got it polished up, I can provide it to whoever might want it.
