Seems to me if your (pure) Essence user is lugging around several pounds' worth of falchion

I wouldn't call 1,5 pound "several" pounds...
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

No, but the Falchion is listed as weighing 3.5-5 lbs. And that I would call several pounds. I don't know where you get the 1.5 lbs from.

Page 60 of RMC Arms Law, Falchion weight is 1.5-2 pounds... Is this a typo?  :o

Edit: in RMFRP Arms Law Falchion weight is 3.5-5 pounds, as you said. I wonder what's the right weight!

Even an aluminum falchion would weigh more than 1.5 lbs.  Papier-mache, perhaps?

It depends on the type of semi.

On rangers, armsmaster, and combat-oriented type, I would say the two handed sword.
Or, for maximum shield/weapon combination, the falchion. But that's, actually, the best choice for EVERY character, powerplaying-wise.
Obviously, in a CC/MAC POW and with options, and/or flavor-wise, then any weapon could be good for a specific character.

I especially like the shield/mace or shield/hammer combination, beacuse they both fall in the same category (RMSS/FRP) and if using weapon similarity rules from RM2 (don't know if something similar catually exist in RMC).

Its really a pity in my game world that no one has invented the falchion yet ;)

Remember, Spell Law penalizes essence users for carrying inorganic objects.  This might explain why they use clubs and quarterstaves.

My vote also goes to the Heavy Crossbow.   It may be a one-shot wonder, but it's the best chance a relatively unskilled character has.    It also has fewer inorganic parts then a sword.

Anyone know any specific rules covering the carrying of "inert matter" or "organic matter" and penalties for Essence and Channeling spell-users who sport it?

In the core RMC rules, in RMC Spell Law, on page 25, there is a list of "Casting Requirements". If the character does not meet those requirements, he cannot cast spells.

According to this list, an Essence User must have less than 20 lbs of organic material and less then 5 lbs of metal on his person (he must also have 1 hand free, and not be wearing armor or a helmet of any type).

For Channeling Users, the amount of organic material doesn't matter, but he must have less than 10 lbs. of metal on his person (and have one hand free, no metal armor and no metal helm).

If the caster does not meet those criteria, he cannot cast spells, period.

Thank you very much, Rasyr.  Pithy, punchy, and prompt!

Am I correct in assuming that these restrictions apply to semi-spell users attempting to cast?

Short sword.  It has some of the lowest thresholds versus the low AT's.  Non warriors shouldn't really find themselves battling heavy armor foes in melee anyway.  Jump, fly longdoor, whatever, just get out of the way.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Damilano;
Yes the spell casting rolls apply to everyone who casts spells and it does not matter if you are a pure arms, semi spell caster, pure spell caster, hybrid caster or arcane caster if you use those professions.

One thing I do is have a house rule that lets the caster change the type of weapon that magic staff spell list works with. I increase the penalty for casting without the weapon and also take away the penalty for weight when the caster has the weapon on them. But again this is a house rule.

of course the real weapons for non warriors are missile weapons, if they stay at range they stay alive, which is how I'd fight if I had to, heck even warriors should fight at range, it's how it's done in the real world...

buy a bow and keep moving....

Ok you and your bow and me an a rifle. Now we are talking a battle.

In all fairness someone once said I want all battles I take part into be one side affairs. With my side wining of course.

I don't buy this idea about missile weapons, sorry.
Sometimes you'll be outnumbered and forced to melee fighting. If you don't have a melee weapon you're toast.

Short answer: Agincourt.
The world was then consumed by darkness, and mankind was devoured alive and cast into hell, led by a jubilant 紗羽. She rejoiced in being able to continue serving the gods, thus perpetuating her travels across worlds to destroy them. She looked at her doll and, remembering their promises, told her: "You see, my dear, we succeeded! We've become legends! We've become villains! We've become witches!" She then laughed with a joyful, childlike laughter, just as she kept doing for all of eternity.

Advantage to the history student, OLF!  :o

As far as combat tactics go, I prefer Sun Tzu myself.  If you actually have to enter combat, you've already lost.  Sneakiness and stealth are where it's at.
