New to HARP and I have a question?

Hey folks!

I am new to HARP, but I did play a bunch of games of MERP 2e back in the day when I was in High School, early '90s time frame.

Anyhow, I was talking to a co-worker because he found out I was a gamer.. we started talking about MERP and then HARP. He said he really didn't have time to game, but I'd appreciate HARP, so he gave me his books, like 6 of them for $20 - one of them is a print out of HARP Lite, he said I should read that first.

Now my question is that I noticed my HARP book is a little different then the current one I see on drivethru, its only 192 pages vs 203 pages -- is my edition valid or out of date? I'd like to learn the most recent and not use outdated stuff.

The changes from those editions are small, but important. Having said that though, what you have has 99% of the current rule set and a great way to start, especially at that price. If you have questions as you go you can put them here - or - you can go to ICE's Discord and ask there. I am Seraphim_72 there and keep a close eye on HARP stuff there.

Thank you kindly. Been reading HARP Lite as suggested, and going to make up a character and run through some combat to get an idea of how it works before I drop it on the group.
Which ICE discord, there is two of them. One that says Iron Crown, and another that looks like the ICE logo itself.

It's been a while since I HARPed, but I do remember that the first edition from 2003ish had only 160 pages and was quickly revised to the 192pp edition you have (which is still considered first edition). So I think that as long as you don't have the original first release, you'll be fine to go with what you have. The first release had a number of essentially game-breaking bugs which the community quickly jumped on.
