Topic: Gethaena

Hello there,

My first topic here. I'm a french Gamemaster who loves Rolemaster and who's planning to build a Gethaena campaign. I don't know if I'm at the right place since Gethaena is more or less canon but, anyway, I have some questions :
- I wanted to know if some of you have already play in this setting ; what did you think of the campaign et how did you use the setting ?
- I find the limited map very strange ; the whole country/world is around 150 miles. I would expand the scale to 1500 miles for the map, so that the whole population could live here. The book states that armies are made of thousands of individuals... How is it possible in such a small country ?! The ecosystem seems strange to me ; yes, it's a dreamlike environment but I need to make it somehow believable if my players have to deal with the residents
- How did you made characters part of the setting ? Travellers or native residents ? How did you connect them to the setting and the monstruous antagonists such as the gods dwelling there ?
- Do you know of any ressources on the web which expand ou discuss this setting ?

Sorry, I can't help you. I banned Gethaena from my Shadow World baseline. I mean, even the Underdark is (much) more integrated in the Forgotten Realms that Gethaena is in Shadow World. It was published at a time when the "common reference" for Shadow World (editorial work) was basically reduced to "sure, go ahead, as long as it's vaguely fantasy and not porn". It was better than The Shade of the Sinking Plain, but that a pretty low bar to beat.

Mind you, I don't consider Sky Giants of the Brass Stair nor Journey to the Magic Isle canon either, and tend to view most adventure modules quite dimly (Vog Mur excepted). So YMMV, and all that.

I don't think Amthor though Gethaena to be canon for SW. The links with SW IMHO are vague or non existing except the bit about one of the possible outcomes of campaign being that a part of Kulthea's surface is blown away (including all the stuff that is supposed to be there).

If we ignore the aspect that it does not feel like SW, my memories of running the campaign is that it was both fun to run and the players enjoyed it.

The players were visitors from the surface that  were very scared of mysterious individuals running the place. As for the map scale, I pretty much ignored the scale and let things be reasonable large. I have been toying with the idea to reuse the campaign in my current game as a visit-a-fairy-world scenario since I ran it pretty much as magical place last time and I think it would work even better if change the setting in that direction.

Terry hinted in the Master atlas at the modul and so it is tolerated but not pure canon I would say.
