Master skill index, including sources?
« on: February 18, 2011, 05:06:20 AM »
I’m looking for a list of all skills for rolemaster and spacemaster, with a reference to what books they are described in. I have found one list here
http://www.icewebring.com/docs/SkillbyCategory.pdf
but it’s a pdf so I can’t extract the information into tables in excel or other softwares. Also, I’d like RM2 and hopefully spacemaster as well.

Does anyone know of other lists? (A search for skill list on the forum is not easy…)

Thanks,
-Terry

No I do not. But maybe Brent Knorr might have something on his website that may help out. But I do not know as I have not been there in a while.

I'm fairly certain I've seen an excel character sheet for RM/SM with full combined costs for all professions. . . .I'd check the vault.

I think there are both RM2/SM2 and RMSS/SM:P versions, if they're not in the vault I must have grabbed them elsewhere. If you can't find one of those combo sheets post again and I'll see what I can find.

I know there is a chart in an Annual for RMSS and I have an Excel sheet that has the RMSS and SM:P skills in it but not the page number of books they are from. I would need permission from someone at ICE before I released it to someone I have not meet in person.

You can also cheat in that if you have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat you can scan a page in and extract the words that can be put into a spreed sheet.

even easier:
save a copy of the pdf -> open it NOT using the browser -> Go to Tab: Options -> option: select/zoom -> choose the selection tool (the arrow) -> Select stuff you want to copy -> press "ctrl+C" -> open fav document maker -> press "ctrl+V" -> repeat as necessary

I tried opening this in a full version of Adobe Acrobat with no luck. Seems like it is not properly formatted as a table, and that makes export into a different format impossible. This actually seems to be a general problem with pdfs.
Might actually be easier to OCR it…

P.S This is actually the files that seems most suited for my purpose:

I believe I created that out of an Access database.  Which means I should be able to export it as an Excell spreadsheet.  I'll check into for you and let you know.

Thanks a lot :)
And then there is the obvious question if you have the same data for RM2 and SM2 anywhere ? (I can always dream, right ;D )

Not in as much detail, but I do have a list of the skills that are in RM2 Companion 2 and Spacemaster Companion 1

http://www.icewebring.com/docs/RM2_SpaceMasterSkills.xls

The first four columns are probably of the most interest to you, the second half of the columns are my mappings to the RMSS skills

I think you are missing some skills from the RM2 Elemental Comp on the list, but I could be wrong in my quick over look of the skills list.
384 skills almost as many as RMSS and SM:P

The list only has the skills from RM2 Companion 2 and Spacemaster Companion 1, not any of the other Companions.

I thought it was interesting that despite the complaints about skill bloat in RMSS that there were actually alot of skills that existed in RM2 that were missing in RMSS, although it was fairly easy to slot them into categories if you really wanted them.

Thanks again :D
That was perfect for my needs. I had too many skills in my character sheet that i had no idea where they came from or where they are defined. Now i can tag them and let the palyer choose more precisely.
