Title: Mācuahuitl question
Post by: broodhunter on October 05, 2022, 08:40:37 PM
I was wondering what attack charts and what critical charts you would use for a Mācuahuitl (wooden sword with Obsidian blades in it).  They were supposedly very ugly on the battlefield, was wondering for an Aztec themed game, what charts would you use for this?

Maybe Warhammer? You get both Krush and Puncture crits.

It might need some modification to the OB and STR.  Obsidian is more brittle than metal and depending on the type of wood used that would also impact it.  Maybe have a look at Section seven of Treasure Companion for some ideas around appropriate values.

A couple of years back, I made a Rip/Tear crit chart for use with scorpions and other jagged edged weapons. B Hanson posted it to the forums here:

Should be heavy on Slash. Most dramatic Spanish accounts were of the blades decapitating horses. Obsidian blades are much sharper than metal swords, although they are more brittle and it might be well to give a bonus against targets without metal armor and a penalty against metal armor.

You can potentially use the tebuje table from the arms companion for RM2, it uses the ripping critical table located in the same book.
