Okay.

The Martial Arts Strikes skill allows you to deal Small Strike criticals with your unarmed strikes, and the Martial Arts Sweeps skill allows you to deal Small Sweeps criticals. Most natural attacks, like a lizardman's, allow you to deal Small Slash or Small Puncture with the Martial Arts Strikes skill. Monks deal Medium damage with their unarmed attacks.

So, does a Lizardman Monk deal Small or Medium Slash damage with his claws?

If learned as a normal skill (i.e. a natural weapon), a Small Slash.

If learned as part of a Monk's Martial Art (a specific martial art that incorporates the claws), then for that, I would say Medium

Wouldn't those both be the Martial Arts Strikes skill, though? How do you distinguish between the two approaches?

The difference is that one is just a natural weapon skill, while the other is a specific, Martial Arts style.

Such as the difference between MA Strikes and the Tiger Claw MA Style.
