Title: Precisions about Spells and RRs
Post by: Syssiah on March 10, 2016, 08:59:35 AM
Hello,

One of my players is playing as a priest and he uses the Symbol blast Spell from the Holy Symbol List (Channeling companion)

The Spells is described is way : "caster holy symbol erupts in holy light that flares out to one foe. Target must resist or suffer ...etc"

does that mean that no "directed spell" is needed ? Or that the spell will automatically hit the target ? If not, what is the good way to treat the spell's use ?

Thanks in advance

It's a type F spell, which means the target gets a resistance roll but there is no directed spell attack. (You would roll on the Base Attack Spell table though.) A directed spell would have a type Ed -- E for elemental which means it's creating an actual physical thing which can't be resisted and d for directed meaning the attack is resolved as a directed spell attack on the applicable table.

A directed spell would also note in the spell description what table the attack is resolved on. Here the description just says "Target must resist or suffer an 'A' Holy Spell critical...." and that is exactly the effect, no more no less.

This is typical of spells that just inflict a critical. A core example would be Shock A on the Mentalist's Mind Attack list.

if the rr is made then spell/attack is dodged, blocked or caster just misses.

directed spell skill could be developed and added to B.A.R.
