HARP spell cards options
« on: January 20, 2015, 09:24:29 PM »
Here are two different examples of the HARP spell cards I am developing. I'd like to know what the community thinks which looks best and if there are any improvements I can possibly implement.

I like B as it seems to be easier to read. The dark boarder in A interferes a bit with the text.
  Does that help?

I think I agree with markc on this.  Option B seems more readable and less jarring on my eyes.  The aura/halo area around the text in A seems to distract from the text.

Thank you both for the input so far. I like the darker version of the cards along with the "glow" effect, I think they look a little more professional and seem easier to read to me. But that is apparently just me so far. I may offer both as an option for purchase.
As a side note once I get this done I may do an "HD" (that term is used way to much these days) version that has varied colors and graphics based on the spell and spell type.

Instead of HD you can use Premium Color or some other word for color options.

I did not take a quick look at the font but that is/can be a big things also on cards depending on the size of the text, background and layout.

I agree.
I am using the same fonts as in the HARP core book, Korigan ITC and Warnock Pro. I wanted to keep it official and in "sync" with the books.
Please remember that these will be poker sized cards and getting the font to fit and still be readable was difficult. I printed out a sample set and they look good though they aren't the professional quality Gamecrafter produces. I have also increased the size of the font 2 pts since my test printing. But I will have no way of knowing how good they look or the readability of the cards until I get my first draft print run from them.

FYI, I am working on some other card examples that are primarily focused on the more popular lighter background. I will post another poll once I have at least 5 options.

IMHO having a readable card is preferable to the official font. Heck you might be the person to start a new official font for playing cards for ICE.

Fantastic work!  I am with the majority, B-version is much easier to read.  Beautiful job.
