for the similar skills rule in Companion 2, for those who use it (or did in the past), which way do you handle it?

The book gives two options from what I can piece together

A: The ranks earned from a "similar skill" are added to whatever you have bought normally.

or

B: You use the higher of the similar skill ranks and the ranks actually purchased.


A is a lot easier to work with, but there's a few places where two skills bestow ranks unto each other, that might go out of control a little.
B seems more realistic but there's a bit more checking numbers I guess.

We used option B and found it a bit easier to use.

A also gets you into a mess where you have 10 ranks, so 5 similar skill ranks, then buy a rank in the similar skill, then go up 2 ranks in the original skill. . . .what's my rank?

B tends to avoid circular accounting issues like that.

Agreed B is the easiest way to go about it

Option B seems more fair to me, and like easy.
