MERP modules religion and cults
« on: January 03, 2023, 03:41:13 PM »
Did any of the original authors of the MERP modules have additional information about the religions and cults that didn't make it into the modules? I have most of them, and particularly in the rhovanion region the culture descriptions include a worship section that mentions animist like reverence for certain Valar and Maiar and participation in the "Cult of the Growing", "Cult of the Stag", "Cult of the Earth" etc, but there is never any description of what those cults entail, how they view things, and how the religions work. You occasionally run across some NPC who is supposed to be a priest of one of these cults, but the description makes no mention of any religious activity, belief, or anything to distinguish them from any other non-religious NPC except being a generic animist or cleric. It is pretty sad when D&D has better descriptions of religions than MERP products.

Has anyone seen any background or supplemental descriptions that could have been used to coordinate these references? They appear in most of the NW Middle Earth region modules and seem to be pretty consistent in the naming(including Sindarin/other language translation) and application to the proper cultural groups, but never anything other than a mention.
