Title: Undead CO drain recovery
Post by: Jengada on October 15, 2017, 01:48:29 PM
How does a character regain Constitution points drained by undead? And where is it in the RM2 books? (Maybe this is why I rarely use undead!)

Creatures and Treasures section 2.9
Once lost, temporary constitution can be
regained normally via complete rest at 1
point per day, or normal activity at 1 point
per week. They can alternate periods of rest
and activity, but bed rest will only count if
taken in full days. Target will only recover
temp Con this way for a number of days
equal to the amount of temp Con lost (so
failing to rest will result in some long term
loss in temp con). Magic and/or herbs may be
able to aid in recovering lost Constitution.

Thanks! The fact my copy of C&T (1985) only goes to section 2.6 might explain why I don't have this! Now I'm curious, what's in sections 2.7 and 2.8? :)

2.7 is about climate
2.8 is creature abilities
2.9 is specific abilities

That is the RMC C&T

Personally I prefer the optional life level drain mechanic as there is a spell list which can help with this. You also do not need to worry about recalculating Co based bonus' - ie reduced Co will reduce body points. Whereas with life level you get a straight penalty across the board.

I'm guessing this is also in RMC. What is the penalty for a life-level drain, and what is the mechanic for recovering life-level drain?

Feel free to use my Death Critical Strike table. It's a lot more entertaining than simple con damage and adds that element of chance.
Assign critical levels in place of the severity of con damage, e.g., 1-5 con damage = A, 5-10 = B, etc.

Also useful to replace undead cold critical hits.
File attached.

No RMC doesn't have life levels as they were in a later RM2 companion and never made it across. If you have the RM2 books then they should work though.

I think the Life Level rules were in RC3 (I havn't got access to my books at the moment). There was also a spell list for restoring and purifying Life Levels. Very useful if you did not want to turn into a vampire.

I'll check RC3. But in the meantime, I noticed (by chance) that the list Life Master, a cleric base list in both RM2 and RMSS, has a whole stack of "Healing Life Essence" spells in RMSS, where the RM2 version has blank slots. I'm just going to pop them in there, it makes perfect sense on that list.
