I would like to use the "Mental" and "Neuro" criticals found in one of the companions, but it doesn't really specify how or when to use them. I was thinking maybe they should be used with some of evil mentalism lists because a lot of those spells are pretty weak. Any ideas? Thanks.

Which Companions in particular do you mean?

RMC-V has the Neuro Crit table.  It's recommended for use with Mentalists shock Spells and various Space Master weapons.

Elemental Companion has the Mental Crit table. It's recommended for Orientation rolls from Telephasing/Displacement spells  It is also suggested that the table can be used in "horror" campaigns.

Armed with this knowledge, there are lots of ways you can integrate these fun and wonderful tables into your campaign.

If you have Spell User Companion and the lists are allowed, there are Psionic spell lists.  These lists tie into Space Master and are included for use in RM.  These will do mental/neuro damage.

Any electrical crit can also use mental/neuro crits as secondary or tertiary crit if the roll is particularly nasty.

Failed PP Projection skill could lead to a neurological burn out.

Any severe blow to the head the puts the victim in a coma for any length of time but does not kill them.

Time Crits that decay the functionality of the mind.  Any massive time shift.

Teleport spells gone awry.

Any great loss such as the death of a bound familiar.

* - this example happened to a friend's PC - Loss of ability to serve the purpose of the PC.  A paladin on a holy quest for her god was severely wounded and lost her arm.  She wielded a 2H Holy Sword and could no longer use it, or complete her quest.  She fell into horrible despair and impaled herself upon the holy sword to atone for her failure.  Hmm... perhaps that's a Depression Crit instead.

Neuro crits could also happen from spell list learning failure, especially if it's an Evil list or a closed list a PC is attempting to learn outside their realm/profession.  A lot of the neuro crits could be the result of a demonic possession or failed demonic possession.
If discretion is the better valor and
cowardice the better part of judgment,
let's all be heroes and run away!
