Renaissance America
When I designed the handout for this, you might think it's "Gothic Horror America," but each to his thoughts. For a long time, I thought about what would happen if Printing was effectively stopped by the Catholic Church in the greater part of Europe. What would have happened to the colonizing of America if Gutenberg's printing press with moveable type never got off the ground.
Be thankful that didn't really happen, though, and that the thirst for Information kept Printing alive. Now the Internet is under attack by Hollywood and Recording studio moguls. But I digress into my liberal attitudes on Copyright.
Anyway, Renaissance America is the result of reading Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series. He made up a fantasy America seen through the eyes of Folklore. I thought to myself, what would happen if America was successfully colonized during the Late Middle Ages?
You'd get Castles. Most of America's modern cities are not walled, however (Israel's cities were not to be walled, for those who care). So, without much, I left the idea alone for ten years to see if anything would flower.
i decided to do a different kind of fantasy America. In this kind of fantasy America, you have elves, dwarves, halflings, and other fantastic races (Reptile Men, or lizard men being one of them). The cities resemble those of Medieval cities and Renaissance cities.
