Hiking skill
« on: November 10, 2009, 09:41:06 PM »
I am thinking about adding the Hiking skill in the Ath End Cat, what do you think? Or do you think it is covered by another skill?

What would this skill do for a player?

This skill would allow the player to walk the stated movement on the travel chart and avoid some of the exhaustion point expenditures for the various tasks. ie it would allow people with the skill to hike or walk longer then others, this would have a big impact in chases and tactical  movement. Just like climbing, sprinting and long distance running.

For most of the time distance running should work, otherwise use scaling if the terrain is too rough.

I am not too sure you need a skill for it.

I can see it falling in between sprinting, long distance running, scaling and climbing depending on the terrain and the speed of movement.

I think if I would add the ability to long distance running then I will have to provide more ranks at adol for it for my players.

Maybe a Hiking/Walking Skill.
The only difference would be terrain; therefore a difference is MM.

I was thinking of allowing some exhaustion to be regained while jogging if the character had enough Ranks in Long Distance Running. I thought about Drowsing while at walking march for military troops..  ;)

Yes I reduce the Ex cost if they have the skill and make the roll for sprinting, long distance running, swimming, climbing, scaling etc.
