Combi two Psi Cat
« on: May 06, 2009, 06:16:44 AM »
I am thinking of combining the two Psi categories into one. The categories are Radiokinesis and Photokinesis and my reasoning is that both manipulate radiation, since visual light is radiation. Any thoughts?

Thanks

You know, that is a really good idea.
On one hand, psi-powers should be difficult to learn and require a lot of specialization.
And this is reflected in the skill costs; not by making everything another skill.

OTOH, some of it has a feel of being repetitive.
Many powers are similar, so should at least be in the same CAT.

And for that matter...wasn't there a rad shield, light shield, heat shield, etc?
The feel of the game would suggest a shield for every crit table... but these always felt really cumbersome to me.

IMO you might be able to have 1 shield skill and require different levels of magnitude for different crit types. Sort of like a tunable shield that the PC would have to declare what crit type he was blacking, or maybe have different magnitudes reduce the crit by a different amount.

Or have the effects stack so that a low level shield protects against one type, and a high level will protect against all types.

I could see that but IMO a complete all rad shield would have a high mag. Also another thing is if they black visible light they are going to have to have something to see with, but then again that could be another psi skill.

Thanks

 Just a very basic idea:
Start with protection vs heat/IR.... Could get dangerous if maintained too long.
Work up to static shocks and low level "equipment" short circuits.
Another level could be intense visible light.
Maybe next UV light; for those low ionosphere worlds (Mars).
Finally, X-rays> bosons> gamma.... This might totally top out the scale.

Just a thought. I like the idea of higher Mag blocking more ROY G BIV spectrum.
