Question about somthing in ARMS LAW
« on: October 26, 2007, 02:37:54 PM »
Pg 7 under 1.24 Shields it says one weapon may be used as a "shield" but may not be used for attack in the same round.

Does this mean I need anything else to get this bonus of 5 to my DB?  I have a Bastard Sword and a Short Sword.  My idea is that I can attack with my Bastard Sword but use my Short Sword as a "Shield" and nothing else.  Basically instead of holding a shield I am holding a short sword. (Of course holding a shiled would be a better DB but I do not have a shiled. :-X

I am not using any of my OB to parry I was just using the sword as a shield.

Am I totally incorrect in this assumption.  Of course if my GM says no he says no but am I reading the "spirt" of the rule correctly?

So long as the weapon in your second hand (your off-hand) is not used to attack, or is used with a full parry, you gain a +5 to your DB from that weapon.

You don't even have to have any skill in using that weapon to get the bonus to your DB.

The "spirit" of the ruling is that if you have something in your off hand that is large enough, it provides a tiny bit of DB (so long as you are NOT trying to hit somebody with it).

Thanks you sir.

That is what and how I was reading it, and was thinking when I was just getting the game, then told I wasn't.

Of course like I said if the GM says no that is all there is to say but at least now I know I was reading it correctly and making the correct assumptions.

Thanks again.

Tell said GM that he can pop in here for clarifications...

Plus, as GM, he is always able to adjust the rules to his liking anyhow.

You found the right place for any answer  ;)

But as a GM I beg you to read "The Importance of Parrying" in
Arms Law:Defensive Bonus:Parrying or in Forum Archives Parrying - why?

I started a RM campaign and one of my players make always full attacks,
I dislike this kind of behavior because it doesn't feel right (realistic).
Although I tried to told him, he have to learn it the hard way.
