Languages
« on: June 19, 2007, 09:55:47 PM »
A list of languages and associated groups are provided in the setting material. A few questions concerning this:

1) Since they are arranged in groups, I then assume that there are similarities among languages in a group and therefore someone can understand group languages at, say, half skill?

2) Probable Typo: Elvish language has elvish alphabet, while Sylvan language has elven alphabet. Assume these are the same alphabet?

3) Possible Typo: The Infernal language has Infernal alphabet while the others in the group have Infernal Script alphabet. Should Infernal language also be script?

4) Probable Typo: Hairan is listed as a language spoken in Nolinos. Should be Samsi (Hairan is country).

Thanks.  I don't think I knew about that last typo.  Keep them coming if you see more.

Speaking at half skill would be a big jump, since most of them are about as similar as say, English and French.  I grouped them for people using the language group rules from Mentalism Companion.

OK, I'll use 1/4 skill for the groupings (using RM2/RMC).

Should "Infernal" alphabet for "Infernal" language actually be "Infernal Script"?

No worries.  Keep downtime vague and I think you'll be fine.

Do the undead have a separate language? From the base material, I'm not sure.

My play-by-post game has started at http://www.rpgrm.com/rmsmf/index.php?board=187.0

Act 1 is the in game thread, introductions and combat details are separate.
