Dude, what do you think I've been quoting?

I'm not familiar with Floridian metal, but I certainly should have known by your user name!

'Last of all, Húrin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed'. --J.R.R. Tolkien

'Every party needs at least one insane person.'  --Aspen of the Jade Isle

Im with B. Hansen here! No more songs!

Agreed this is off topic for the thread, but overall music is on topic for RPGs. When we played MERP we always had something like Jethro Tull's 'Broadsword' or Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' playing in the background. Perfect mood music for gaming.

Savatage's When the Crows are Gone

Yeah that evokes Andraax and Ondoval pretty well.

We used to play AD&D with a DM who had a theme song for each major NPC and a soundtrack for the entire campaign. We spent a lot of time dissecting lyrics, trying to figure them out like some kind of prophecy of what was to come (which was always fun but rarely actually useful). He also had us pick theme songs for our own characters, I still hear songs and think "this would be perfect for so-and-so" even for characters I played in other campaigns. I have not been bold enough to create a soundtrack for my own campaign yet...

Speaking of music and lyrics, new blog post about Bards and ideas on using them in Shadow World.

Wow, in my 40+ years of gaming, I have never been in a group that has used music like you guys describe. Only recently have I been trying to use sound effects in my games, but even then I find that often they can just get in the way - it is often already hard enough to hear/understand everything going on with table talk.

Last session I carefully lined up sound effects tracks for each of the major scenes, then forgot to play any of them. :)

Now this has me thinking what theme songs might fit the major ShadowWorld characters.

The K'ta'viir from the First Era of Ire all seem like they should have 80s music as their theme. Artists like David Bowie, New Order, Romeo Void, and the like. Punk Rock, Post Punk, and New Wave music.

However, Ondoval would fit Black Sabbath's War Pigs pretty well.

There are some great gaming soundtracks on Spotify, if like me you are lazier than most posters here. We're currently playing the Princes of the Apocalypse campaign (DnD 5e), and there is actually an entire set of soundtracks for it.

BAck when I ran a game, I sometimes liked to use music for mood. I particularly remember using this song for a session when they were encountering an ancient temple...

And of course I used several Duran Duran songs, including Save a Prayer, the video had great visuals of temples.

The funniest thing for us was recently when we put on a Spotify playlist of Queen while gaming. Every track seemed to have a title or lyrics that were relevant, including:

--Another One Bites the Dust
--Save Me
--Don't Stop Me Now
--Keep Yourself Alive

And of course, Seven Seas of Rhye.

LOL! My sister is the Queen expert so I can't really comment as I don't know the more recent ones, esp. 'Seven Seas', except where is Bohemian Rhapsody?  ;-)

It's not boring. You guys created something that has stuck with us for 30+ years. It's always interesting to hear what the inspiration for this stuff was.

All the music stuff is admittedly a bit off topic for this thread, and since not everyone is ok with that, maybe it could split off into it's own thread where people can discuss it without any remorse?

Shrapnel & Swarm Critical Table
« Reply #374 on: February 20, 2020, 02:16:30 PM »
I did this a few years ago--it needs some work since it's a hybrid of RM2, early RMU etc. It's a critical chart for shrapnel and "swarms of small things". I used it for Nannite attacks (Priest-King of Shade) and secondary blast results from munitions. Since both types of attacks are broad pattern, splatter or scattered it doesn't work as well with RMU body hit locations.

Oooh, I like the shading Brian. RMU should definitely try to use that for their critical tables; it makes them much easier to read.

For those that have downloaded “Priest-King” and have an interest in finishing any of the floorplans that were just sketched out, message me. I’m using this pandemic downtime to write and finish projects, but I’m just not good with graphics!
