Craft from the United Worlds Commonwealth
« on: March 06, 2011, 11:28:47 PM »
These are basically a couple of craft which I originally designed using Traveller New Era's Fire Fusion & Steel for my UWC campaign (see www.skaran.net)  I have  re-imagined them for Spacemaster Privateer.

The tech assumptions I made to keep the original flavour for this universe are;
Base Tech Level      20
Weapons (Blaster, Laser)   23
Weapons (Missiles, Other)   20 (Disruptors and Ion Cannon unavailable)
Thruster (2nd Gen Reaction)   29
FTL (Warp)         23.5 (Warp 7)
Artificial Gravity and RIF      Available

Now for the craft, first the hopefully finaly version of the Moth class away boat

Moth class away boat (military version)
Base Tech Level            20
Crew               6 (3)
   15 Passengers (Seats)
Cargo               63.06 Kiloliters (19.32 Metric Tons)
Mass               175 Metric Tons
Hits               183
CAT               XIV
Fusion Power Rating         5 (0)
   26 week endurance
DB               +15
   Armour Belt      +5
   Evade Program      +10
   12 Decoys
EW               0/5
Cost               c914,365*
Top Speed            2 G’s, 3,000 kph airspeed
   Î”V         172,800
Translight Capability         None
Atmospheric Capability         Full
Armament            Not standard
Provision for 2 Mk21 Torpedoes in 2 medium payload pallets
Features
Microfrequency Comm Rig   Tight Beam Comm Rig
   Advanced Sensor Suite      Cramped
   Air Lock            TeleScopic HUD
Artificial Gravity         GPS and Mapping System
   Infrared HUD         Lo-Light HUD

Auxiliary Systems
Microfrequency Comm Rig   Tight Beam Comm Rig
   Solar Panels
Commentary The military version of the Moth class away boat is a standard general purpose small craft carried on larger military vessels.

And now for the Vendetta class destroyer escort

Vendetta class destroyer escort
Base Tech Level            20
Crew               120 including personnel assigned to Moth class boat
   No Passengers
Cargo               1,665.44 Kiloliters (571.748 Metric Tons)
Mass               7,000 Metric Tons
Hits               7,350
CAT               XIV
Fusion Power Rating         420 (3)
   52 week endurance
DB               +15
   Armour Belt      +5
   Evade Program      +10
Point Defence Rating   5, Escort level
EW               20/14
Cost               c246,878,921*
Top Speed            4 G’s
   Î”V         345,600 (17 hour endurance full throttle)
Translight Capability         Warp 7 (approx 1ly/day)
Atmospheric Capability         None
Armament            2 Mk8 Blasters in flexible mounts (+68)
               6 Mk12 Lasers in turrets (+72)
6 Mk7 Torpedoes in 2 medium payload pallets
2 Mk21 Torpedoes in 2 medium payload pallets
Features
Microfrequency Comm Rig   Tight Beam Comm Rig
Tachyon Comm Rig      Advanced Sensor Suite
Medical Dispensary      Medical Dispensary
   Workshop (CIP 840,000)   Security Bay
Vehicle Bay (1 Moth class QB)   Agile Communications
   Airlocks (10)         Artificial Gravity
   Computer Translator      Cramped
Docking Ring         GPS and Mapping System
   Infrared HUD          Lo-Light HUD
Telescopic HUD         Mk7 Payload Pallet Adaptors (2)

Auxiliary Systems
Microfrequency Comm Rig   Tight Beam Comm Rig
   Advanced Sensor Suite      Solar Panels

Commentary The Vendetta class arose from a requirement for an escort for civilian vessels. The hardpoint mounted weapons (all except the blasters) can be altered relatively easy in a shipyard. With the addition of a Mk7 payload pallet adaptor costing c147 the Mk21 Torpedoes in the payload pallets can be replaced by 3xMk7s.

* Cost of consumables and small craft not included.

I like them but IMHO each need Aux Life support being military vessels.

Also are the weapons mounted on the Vendetta single weapons or multiple weapon mounts?

I've always sort of assumed that all life support systems would include some redundancy, a hang over from Traveller New Era where emergency life support was a part of the main life support.

As for the weapons on the Vendetta all the weapons are singles. I had this mental picture of a late WW1 or early WW2 destroyer which generally had single mounts.

The notation then in 6 MK 12 Lasers in single turrets so as not to have any confusion.

And now a vehicle. Since this has to maintain the flavour of a universe where grav comes in earlier this results in the grav technology being level 25.

Skyspirit class aircar
Base Tech Level            20
Crew               1
   4 Passengers (Seats)
Cargo               9.096 Kiloliters (0.2616 Metric Tons)
Mass               22 Metric Tons
Hits               22
CAT               XIII
Fusion Power Rating         8 (0)
   26 week endurance
DB               0
EW               Not standard
Cost               c 1,284,055*
Top Speed            350 kph
Endurance      26 weeks
Translight Capability         None
Atmospheric Capability         Exclusive
Armament            Not standard

Features
Microfrequency Comm Rig   Basic Sensor Suite
GPS and Mapping System   Infrared HUD
   Landing Gear

Commentary One of the first grav vehicles produced by the imperium. It is based on the then Le Royaume des Etoiles du Cygne’s PAC21 Aircar. Though called an aircar the vehicle is the size of a reasonably sized truck.

The vehicle is in widespread service despite its price and is carried by some vessels, especially scout and survey types as a useful runabout. It can be found in both open-topped and enclosed versions.

The vehicle is capable of reaching orbit eventually but passengers and crew would need to supply their own life support needs.

* Cost of consumables not included.
