For spell items.. what do I roll ?
« on: May 13, 2008, 06:48:41 PM »
This might be a dumb question, but suppose I have a wand that lets me cast a certain spell once a day.

I dont have that spell list as a skill.

So what do I roll when I use mister wand ?

It depends on what type of spell it is. Also is it in your realm etc.

A non-attack spell requires an attunement roll to use it.

I use a little different system for attack spells so I would ask your GM for attack spells.

Also not that wands can have only low level spells placed in them. I do not know the rank right now as I use some house rules to adjust them.

You use the catagory bonus for the spell list.

Assuming you don't want to book keep every list in the game, you can figure catagory bonus for open/closed in other realms.

I just use stat mod x3 + prof bonus, typically +5.  The BAR bonus for the item is figured out by the level of the item, for a wand normally level 3 or 5, so a +3 or +5 to the BAR + catagory bonus, just like with normal spell casting.

All spells cast from items are considered a 75% action, even if instantaneous.

Is this a 'non-standard' item that allows you to cast it as opposed to you using activating the item that is casting the spell for you?

You use the catagory bonus for the spell list.

Any idea which book that is from?  I am a bit confused as spell lists don't have a catagory bonus.  Also that in TC it states that the item casts at the level of the spell, unless otherwise noted.

There is a catagory bonus for spells divided into open, closed, base, other base.  The ranks in the spell list are added to the Catagory Bonus (at 0-1-1-.5 I believe is the spell list progression, been a while since I looked at it).

However, Treasure Companion covers all this in detail.

Your own fault:
Why don't you use your first name: James ?

James, such a virile name, a name for a hero.
How many historical men were baptised with that name:
James Cook, King James, James T. Kirk ...

OK, it is the most common name for a male in the USA (according to the 1990 U.S. Census - Wikipedia).
(I thought the most common would be John like in John Smith and John Doe.)

Has happened before.  ...

Seems to happen quite often...  :D

I was born in a very small town named Zeeland, which is adjacent to the town I grew up in, Holland, which is surrounded by small townships with names like Drenth, Vriesland, Dorr, Coopersville, Borculo, etc.

The Doctor at the time swore I would be a girl, and I was to be named Crystal Lynn.  Yet on June 8th, 1969 at about 7:30 AM, out came me, a boy.

My name was argued about and the compromise my parents reached the name I have, but mom always got her way, and I was to be called Lynn.  Many tried to foil my mothers wishes, all failed.

You will fail too, lol.

My new avatar is me and a good friend, Trudy.
