Conflicting action to disengage from melee
« on: April 21, 2019, 12:59:43 AM »
Hi everyone,
I was having a situation where two arms users are in a melee and one of them wants to disengage. I thought this would be a good situation to use Conflicting actions, the highest wins. How do you do it in your games?
Cheers,
DW

RMSS does cover this.  Basically you are right, do a conflicting dice roll.  If the person wanting to disengage rolls higher he disengages prior to the attack if not the other person stills gets their attack.  However there is nothing preventing the other person from following.   Theoretically if he disengages and wins initiative he could run away in which case if the other follows the chart in companion 4 for move and attack is very handy.

I always liked stickier combat, myself, and made it a MM roll with the result on whatever column you wanted(usually chose Medium +0 but terrain, environment, could affect this).
Whatever percentage chance was listed, we reduced it by the level of the foe, and the player rolled to get below this number.

If they did, they continued to disengage without getting hit.
If they didn’t, they got thwacked before leaving their space!
