A Shadow World Adventure
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:37:32 AM »
We have a party of high level characters (15th - 20th) adventuring in Shadow World. We play infrequently and as a consequence there was a terrible probability that we would forget thing between sessions, forget NPC names where were were going and so on. We did quite literally get all the way to the library at Nomikos because we wanted to research something and when we get there no one could remember what it was that we wanted to look up!

To try and minimise that happen too often I kept minutes of every session and then wrote it up pretty much "In character" after every session and then shared with with the GM and other players before the next session as a memory jogger.

I am pleased to say that the character from whos point of view it was all taking place died on Saturday (long story) and so book one of the adventurers chronicle as we have been calling it is at an end. I have drafted in a different character to join the party and they have started Book II.

I am no writer that is for sure and this was only really written as a memory jogger but I am happy to share it with anyone who would like an insight to some really terrible play of 6 human years or two Kulthean months of adventuring.

If that is your situation, I recommend running small adventures that essentially conclude in one night. The Tales of the Loremasters books had quite a few of these short ones. I've run essentially a whole campaign of these Tales and other ones I made with just a couple of combats and a resolution at the end of the night, and it worked really well.

I may pass that on to our Shadowworld GM. I am GMing a game for our group on the Friday night/ Saturday morning and then we play Shadowworld for the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning. It takes a week just to recover from the sleep deprivation let alone poor diet and excess alcohol.

Hah! Sounds like out old Eastern Middle-earth campaigns (though no alcohol; I brought my Mr Coffee, and others had their Dr Pepper). We would start Friday night and often play all weekend. Good times.

We no longer have the stamina for all nighters. Last weekend Friday night went on to 3am, Saturday until 1am and Sunday morning was more like we were all playing zombies if you had looked at us.

We did quite literally get all the way to the library at Nomikos because we wanted to research something and when we get there no one could remember what it was that we wanted to look up!

As I said earlier the quality of play sometimes went down hill.

LOL! Yeah, it happens. The irony for me was that I did several all-nighters playing Pete's campaign, and never did a single one for Architecture School (which was a common thing for my classmates) and I still did well.
