Kickstarter?
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:52:43 PM »
I'm sure people have talked about this, but in case they haven't, I'm just wondering if anyone at ICE has considered using Kickstarter to help fund the new RMU?

Monte Cook's new world has supposedly raised $500,000 for his project ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1433901524/numenera-a-new-roleplaying-game-from-monte-cook ), which is far in excess of what I think anyone expected (grats, Monte! I still can't get enough of reading your Darkspace book!). I just thought I'd throw the idea out there in case it might help.

It has been proposed by the ICE Fans in the past and I think (but do not know for sure) if Nicholas has looked into it. I do remember him saying something about being a British base company and some strange twists with Kickstarter that made it tough to use. But again that is from memory and may be wrong.

I'd second the idea and throw some money in it's direction... though I believe that there is another similar UK based "scheme"...Indiegogo  and rumours of a British version of Kickstarter.

I think the rules may have changed. Last time I saw it mentioned, it was said that only US people/companies could start Kickstarter projects. It now appears that UK residents and (well, England & Wales for definite) companies can also start them

You could always just send Nicholas H.M. Caldwell $ and say it for for The Guild Companion Publishing Projects and I bet you might get some Honorable Mentions for it in a book or three. But I am just guessing here and you might want to send him a PM about it before you do.

It seems like a pretty good idea to me, as GC do get their planned stuff out eventually -- so the risk of throwing money away is low -- and with the cash there in advance they'd probably be able to get it done quicker. With the risk of non-fulfilment low and a decent chance of it getting there earlier than with no kickstarter, and the normal break on the RRP backers get, it seems to me that it'd be better for both the customer and the producer of the material (GC, in this case). It's also particularly handy, as I understand it, for getting print runs done.

Me too, especially if there is some good loot. I could probably do a good $250 sponsorship, maybe up to $500, if the loot is worth it.

But only if it has Angus McBride RM2 art on the cover and some good nice modern era formatting and outline and layout design.

Actually, for the $500 sponsorship, I would need to have 12x18-inch McBride posters (preferably signed) as well as the "collectors" versions of the hard-cover books, and my name in them somewhere. (I think that my name should be somewhere in the new books anyway, as I look over my not finished game room and see that ICE products take up an entire bookshelf, and I don't even have the HARP stuff up there yet. And this is my third collection of ICE products, albeit the largest.)

That would be epic to get Angus McBride!

No offense to the artist who did the banner for ICE's new website or the people who did the pics on the new RMU books, but but I would really like to see Angus back.

I'm afraid he won't be doing any new art. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_McBride

Via sketch at a high enough level of pledge ...

Heck, even in character sheet form, as one of the example characters.
