Title: Magical item lists/repository
Post by: OLF, i.e. Olf Le Fol on March 29, 2017, 10:24:10 AM
Ok. Obviously, I've been using the magical item lists in C&T, C&T2, C&T3, RoCo III and RoCo V, as well as (A)D&D's books. Recently (relatively speaking since I did for a few years now), I've been using Pathfinder's "Ultimate Equipment" (THE best equipment compilation ever, as items are sorted by location). And I've made my own.
But, well, after over three decades of GMing, finding ideas for new/original magical items becomes... challenging, so I'd like to know if any of you knows of a location, book or anything where I can get ideas for magical items. The game system doesn't really matter, as I'm after ideas and can pretty much adapt to RM2 anything. Ideally, I'd like them sorted by location.
Thanks.

Have you looked at Treasures of Middle Earth?  Pretty good stuff and not all of it is Armour, Weapons, or Spell Caster Enhancement.  I like things like Blanket of Warming and that sort of item.

Are you looking for normal equipment lists (like And a 10 Foot Pole...) or magical item compilations (like Encylopedia Magica)? And have you looked at items from computer games, especially big or long running ones like The Elder Scrolls, Runescape and Warcraft?

I looked and used pretty much everything that was published by ICE. :p

Magical items only.

I tend not to look there because magical items in these games are hardly original, existing foremost for combat purpose. Regardless of the system and its appearance, a +X to hit/damage/stats item is just that and nothing original. If I look at items i created, I'd call "original" items such as:

There are a couple of older D&D compilations, The Book of Marvellous Magic and, for the truly oddball, The Book of Wondrous Inventions.

Oh, this is excellent! Magical items sorted by usage, exactly what I need! Thank you very much!

Thanks for the information! I'll try looking to them… AD&D2 stuff?

Actually BECMI D&D. I've checked and the contents of both would appear to be included in the Encyclopedia Magica.

For modern Pathfinder, the "Treasury" series from Legendary Games has some interesting things, but it can be pricey buying each outside of a bundle or other offer.
