RMX review ...

... over at RPGnet.

It's not a standard review but rather a 'review thread' by someone new to RM.   8)
Akrasia: literally, "bad mixture", the Greek term for the character flaw of incontinence or weakness of the will, the condition in which an agent is unable to perform actions that are known to be right.

It's like a blog as he goes through the book reading it, experiencing RM for the first time.

Scary how he "Speculates" actual conversations we had in development that led to decisions.

I wince at some of the things he trips on, feeling to blame. . .great thread, thanks for sharing it. (Doh, race heights and weights! Doh!)

BTW, you're right on the cleric, not so much the religion angle as the lists, the base lists for clerics delve into repulsions, lifegiving and channeling (The transfer of PP and Spells) and other concepts that make them awsome to play, but would have required a lot more space to explain than the Animist did.

That is the best review I have ever read, and quite balanced.

Knowing you have read it LM made me chuckle at a few spots.  As one of the writers, I could imagine you beam and cringe between praise and criticisms.

Made me wanna buy the book, lol.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

I think his encumberence in 5 units of 5 is -50, but he seems way light for even a shortie.

Then again an increment of 5 implies 10% of his weight, that he's a 50 pound halfling, I know 3-4 year olds around 50#. . . so he might be a little off on his encumberence. . .then again, didn't write in a sample height/weight for them, did I?

Grubman is a really good guy I've interacted with him on some other game boards so his opinion is usually very fair and balanced.

I second the comment about grubman.  I'm actually involved in that thread.  I'm a big fan of RMX.  My group loves how it streamlines RMC play, especially when some of the recent options from Express Additions 3 are used.  So don't feel too bad, LM, you have made my group very happy!  ;D

well, 2 options mainly

1) Armor as a single skill (as opposed to 4 skills)

2) A combat option that changes how weapon skills are handled. Based on the core of the combat style system to be presented in the upcoming combat companion book I am working on.

Tim - if you publish too much of the Combat Companion as Express Additions, the incentive to purchase the entire companion is severely curtailed ...

Actually those are basically just teasers, and the weapon stuff is pre-generated, not customizable like the full style rules. (i.e. essentially just the basic attack/parry, no special moves at all)

Yes it does... It also contains 3 new professions, an armor by the piece systemn new combat/critical tables (which use the ABTP system) and the combat styles stuff...
